PSU Schuylkill advances in PSUAC tourney

ORWIGSBURG — Penn State Schuylkill’s baseball team is headed to State College to continue its bid for a Penn State University Athletic Conference championship.

Led by a five-hit complete game from reigning PSUAC and USCAA Pitcher of the Week Tristian Baer, the Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Brandywine 5-4 on Saturday at Allen Greenawalt Field.

The victory sends PSU Schuylkill (29-12) to Penn State’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, where it will continue play in the double-elimination bracket at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5.

Jared Sterner led PSU Schuylkill on Saturday with three hits, including a double. Owen Zimmerman added a single, double and two runs.

PSU Schuylkill erased a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the third inning and scored the eventual game-winner in the fifth in a game delayed twice by rain.

Earlier Saturday, PSU Brandywine had eliminated PSU York 11-5 at Allen Greenawalt Field to advance against PSU Schuylkill.
