Projecting what the 2022-23 Thunder depth chart will look like
The slow days of the NBA calendar have arrived which means that most rosters — barring massive trades — are essentially set.
That includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, whose biggest offseason moves including extending their own players in Lu Dort and Kenrich Williams. Outside of those two moves, the team only added talent via the draft.
Let’s take an educated guess on what Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault’s depth chart will look like — at least to start off the season. For this exercise, it will only include 17 players — 15 full-time players and two two-way players. Which means that three players will be excluded from this list as the team needs to trim the roster in the near future.
For simplicities sake, the three players that will be out on this exercise are Derrick Favors, Ty Jerome and Vit Krejci. The two two-way players will be Lindy Waters III and Eugene Omoruyi.
Keep in mind that while the depth chart includes the five traditional starting positions, it is not gospel — especially not for the Thunder, who pride themselves for their roster versatility and position-less basketball.
Here is what the depth chart could potentially look like when the 2022-23 regular season starts:
G: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — Tre Mann — Theo Maledon
G: Josh Giddey — Jalen Williams — Aaron Wiggins — Lindy Waters III
F: Lu Dort — Kenrich Williams — Ousmane Dieng — Eugene Omoruyi
F: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl — Darius Bazley — Aleksej Pokusevski
C: Chet Holmgren — Mike Muscala — Jaylin Williams
The roster is still a work in progress, but outside of the bottom of the roster guys, this feels pretty close to accurate.
