Brayton Feister's quest to become a four-time state champion has ended early.

The Hoban freshman wasn't cleared to wrestle at the Kenston Division II District because of an injury and will miss the rest of the postseason, his father, Bo, told the Beacon Journal via text Friday.

The injury happened last week at the Northwest sectional in a semifinal heavyweight match against David Grimes of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Feister was able to pin Grimes, but had to default the championship match.

Feister was well on his way to a possible state title. The three-time Ohio Athletic Committee state and national champion built a 31-0 record that included 26 pins, two technical fall and one major decision.

"Not getting doctor clearance to wrestle this weekend was a difficult setback in Brayton’s athletic career," Bo Feister said. "Winning four state titles was a goal he made at a very young age. Brayton being the competitor he is, mentally he is absolutely demoralized that he won’t be allowed the chance to complete that goal.

"In the long scheme of things it was just a stepping stone to his ultimate goal of playing in the NFL."

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound standout won the Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament, Bill Dies, Hudson Holiday and Chippewa Invitational. He was named most outstanding wrestler at the Dies and Chippewa.

The family will continue to seek more medical advice to determine the next step for the two-sport superstar.

"As of now, there is no definitive date of return," Bo Feister said. "The most important thing is getting him healthy and ready for spring."
