Presenting the 2024 Providence Journal All-State Girls Wrestling selections
The All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards is proud to announce the inaugural player of the year nominees for Girls Wrestling. The winners will be announced during the live show on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
During the live show, athletes of the year in 30 sports will be honored. In addition, top teams, coaches and overall athletes will be honored as will a Courage Award winner. Nominated athletes who RSVP will receive a complimentary ticket to the event thanks to sponsors. Details on how additional tickets can be obtained will be available soon.

The All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country. This year, one school from the area will win a $1,000 donation to its athletic department through our School Spirit Contest.
The 2024 Providence Journal All-State Girls Wrestling First Team
Allison Patten, Pilgrim
Freshman, 100 pounds
Patten, a freshman, entered the girls wrestling scene at the 100-pound weight class. The Patriots' star brought home the gold in a closely contest final, 4-0.
Daisey Hawkins, Scituate
Senior, 107 pounds
The Spartan star was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the championship after a 27-second pin in the semifinals and a 41-second title-winning match. Hawkins was the first winner in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League all-girls wrestling division.
Angel Bui, Toll Gate
Senior, 114 pounds
Bui leaves a champion after snagging the 114 class in a major decision, 15-5. The Toll Gate grappler is one of a few seniors that won gold in the first and only opportunity in the all-girls division.
Kamie Hawkins, Exeter-West Greenwich
Freshman, 120 pounds
Wrestling is a family affair for the Hawkins. Kamie Hawkins, sister of Daisey, won her semifinal match in 27 seconds and then had a 50-second pin in the finals to win gold.
Katelyn Egan, Scituate
Junior, 126 pounds
The second Scituate girl to win a title, Egan, easily won her semifinal with a 57-second pin and then won by decision, 19-17, in the first-place bout.
Meili Shao, La Salle Academy
Sophomore, 132 pounds
Shao won by pins in both of her matches in the 132 class. In the finals, the Rams’ star finished the match in 1:38 to claim gold.
Abigail Otte, Coventry
Freshman, 138 pounds
In one of the closer championship matches of the meet, Otte won, 10-7, to take first place. Otte was the only girl on the Oakers' roster this year and made the program proud.
Victoria Salinas, Toll Gate
Junior, 145 pounds
Toll Gate had two state champions this winter as Salinas secured the pin in 5:48 for first place at 145.
Maura Pendergast, Scituate
Senior, 152 pounds
Pendergast didn’t have a competitor at 152, but the Scituate senior is still a champion and led the Spartans on and off the mat this winter.
Shalom Feliz, Mount Pleasant
Senior, 165 pounds
The 165-pound class had the most competitors with four total matches in the bracket. Feliz, who started in the quarterfinals, won via pin in each of her three rounds. Feliz also reached the semifinals in the New England Championships.
Vanessa Sen, Mount Pleasant
Senior, 185 pounds
Sen was not contested at 185, but is still a champion in the first all-girls tournament.
Jinell Kelley, Cumberland
Sophomore, 235 pounds
Kelley was also not contested at 235, but is still a champion in the first all-girls tournament.
