Last year, Somerset Berkley punched its ticket to the postseason with a senior-laden team. Will other teams — Atlantis Charter/Westport, Case, Diman or Durfee — step up and make the playoffs in 2023? The ultimate goal is Gillette Stadium in December for the MIAA Super Bowls.

Brief season previews
Atlantis Charter/Westport Tritons
Head coach: Kazeem Adediran
League: Mayflower Athletic Conference (Independent) Division VIII
The Tritons will have to navigate through the 2023 season without one of their former co-op schools — Bishop Connolly, which closed its door for good. Atlantis Charter/Westport had its best season in program history in 2022, finishing with a 5-4 mark. The Tritons' return their All-Scholastic freshman quarterback Davion Adediran, who tossed an area-best 14 touchdowns.

Case Cardinals
Head coach: Anthony Palladino
League: South Coast Conference Division VII
The Cardinals look to improve from last season's 2-8 mark this fall. Case returns a number of young stars who now boast a season of experience. Senior quarterback Jack Orton threw for 1325 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first year under center for the Cardinals.
Hard-nosed: Fall River-area high school football defensive players to watch in 2023
Diman Bengals
Head coach: Luke Bahry
League: Mayflower Athletic Conference (Large) Division V
The Bengals were plagued with key injuries in 2022 and hopes to make noise in the Mayflower Large Division this fall. One of the big returners for Diman is Sam Perry, who threw for an area-high 1640 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Durfee Hilltoppers
Head coach: Taylor Brown
League: Southeast Conference Division II
The Hilltoppers will come into the new year hungry to get their first win since Thanksgiving 2021 against New Bedford. Durfee (0-10) returns a lot of key starters, including quarterback KJ Strong, Cooper Long and Nick Wood.
Somerset Berkley Raiders
Head coach: Nick Freitas
League: South Coast Conference Division III
The Raiders were Fall River's lone team to punch their ticket to the playoffs. Duplicating that feat may be challenging for SBR this fall after graduating over 20 seniors. The Raiders were the last team in the Greater Fall River area to play in the Super Bowl (2010).
