Preps: Fowlerville boys beat Williamston in track and field by winning final event

Fowlerville won the final event of the meet Tuesday to beat Williamston, 73-64, in boys track and field.

The Gladiators’ 1,600-meter relay team of Evan Atkinson, Brett Marschall, Brock Foster and Carl Neuman ended the meet by winning in 3 minutes, 40.03 seconds.

It was the fourth first-place finish of the day for Neuman, who won the 110 hurdles in 18.13 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 43.29 and was on two winning relay teams.

Owen Presley won the 100 in a personal-best 11.29 seconds and was on the first-place 400 and 800 relay teams.

Lorenzo Wojcik won the 200 in 23.18, took second in the 100 in 11.41 and was on the winning 400 and 800 relays.

Brett Marschall won the 400 (54.03) and Landon Aeschliman pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches) for the Gladiators.

Plymouth 81, Hartland 56

Hartland junior Cameron Cheetam set school records with his winning times of 10.99 seconds in the 100 and 22.36 in the 200.

The previous 100 record of 11.04, converted from hand times, was shared by Beejay Brown (2005) and Alex Yon (2022). Yon set the previous 200 mark of 22.44, which was converted from a hand time. Cheetam’s times Tuesday were electronically timed.

Christian Fedewa (110 hurdles, 15.97), Dylan Lawrence (high jump, 6-0), Vance Larson (pole vault, 11-6) and Evan Bryan (long jump, 19-3.5) had Hartland’s other victories.

Brighton 94, Salem 38

Brighton’s Joseph Burke won the 100 in 11.36 seconds, the 200 in 22.80 and was on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

Brady Matuszewski won the 800 in 1:59.64, the 1,600 in 4:28.00 and was on the winning 3,200 relay team. Liam Kinney won the pole vault at 13-3 and the 300 hurdles in 40.17.

Brighton’s other winners were Owen Buckley (400, 53.09), Nathan Moskal (3,200, 9:57.83), Mason Mullaly (shot put, 44-7) and Ryan McHugh (high jump, 5-8).

Novi 81, Howell 55

Howell swept the five field events and both hurdles races.

Luke Eros won the discus at 147-0 and the shot put at 44-0.75, John Lovich won the 110 hurdles in 16.46 and the 300 hurdles in 42.75, TJ Fischhaber won high jump at 6 feet, Noah Thames won pole vault at 13 feet and Austin Grunwald won long jump at 20-9.

Pinckney 128, Ypsilanti 9

Pinckney’s Colten Lumadue won the 200 in 23.37 and was on three winning relays.

Jacob Hardesty won shot put (37-11.5) and discus (118-0.75), while Andrew Otberg won long jump (19-11) and high jump (5-10) for the Pirates.

Girls track and field

Williamston 88, Fowlerville 49

Fowlerville junior Kaitlyn Seiter won the 400 in 1:05.04, the pole vault at 7 feet and was on the winning 800 relay team.

Sophomore Fiona Gitulli won the 100 in 13.25 seconds, took second in the 200 in 28.07 and was on the Gladiators’ winning 800 relay team.

Salem 75, Brighton 62

Addison Payne won the 200 in 27.02, the 400 in 1:00.00 and was on the winning 1,600 relay for Brighton.

Nikki Carothers won the 1,600 (5:33.31), Juliet Lewis won the 800 (2:28.39) and Carrigan Eberly won the 3,200 (12:02.87) for the Bulldogs.

Plymouth 70, Hartland 67

Aubree Meyer won the shot put at 38-7 and the discus at 94-8 for Hartland.

The Eagles’ other victories were by Madison Armstrong (400, 1:04.33), Lexie Brown (3,200, 12:54.54), Karlyann Pennala (300 hurdles, 51.98) and Isabelle Bowie (high jump, 5-0).

Novi 91.5, Howell 45.5

Howell’s Sophie Daugard won the 100 in 13.04, shot put at 42-5 and long jump at 17-4.5.

Kaitlyn Ward won the 100 hurdles in 16.57 and the 300 hurdles in 48.66. Alexis Le won high jump at 5 feet.

Pinckney 100, Ypsilanti 28

Pinckney’s Brielle Reason won long jump at 16-3, the 200 in 27.15 and was on two winning relays.

Softball

Fowlerville 22, Lansing Eastern 2

Fowlerville 16, Lansing Eastern 1

Tori Briggs was 6-for-8 with six RBIs in the doubleheader for Fowlerville (11-8).

Tommi Kleinschmidt was 3-for-4 with a home run and seven RBIs, while Angelle Haan was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener for the Gladiators.

Baseball

Fowlerville 12, Lansing Eastern 2

Fowlerville 14, Lansing Eastern 3

Logan Koven was 5-for-6 on the day and drove in three runs in the second game for Fowlerville (7-13-1).

Charyl Stockwell 12, Lutheran Westland 1

Caleb Moore hit a home run and drove in three runs for Stockwell (10-9).

Noah Piesko struck out seven in five innings and Nolan Petroski was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Sentinels.

Soccer

Hartland 1, Northville 1

Alyse Daavettila scored in the second half to give 10th-ranked Hartland (7-4-1) a tie against second-ranked Northville (8-0-4). The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first half.

“As the second half went on, we got more and more aggressive and finally got our tying goal,” Hartland coach Andrew Kartsounes said. “We were really putting pressure on to get that winning second goal, but couldn’t quite do it.”

The Eagles are 4-0-1 in their last five games, allowing only two goals.

Brighton 2, Howell 0

Kate Carrico scored both goals for Brighton off a shot by Olivia Sebestyen and a pass from Ainsley Seiter.

The Bulldogs (5-5-3) shut out Howell (0-11-2) for the seventh straight time since the teams played to a 2-2 tie on April 9, 2019.

Golf

Howell 159, Northville 166

Zach Spencer and Hayden Sturos of Howell tied for first place with 38s at Faulkwood Shores Golf Club in Howell.

Nolan Cuellar of Howell tied for third with a 41.

Salem 165, Hartland 168

LJ Sabala tied for second with a 39, while Luca DiGirolamo and Ian Kastamo tied for fourth with 41s to lead Hartland at Dunham Hills.

CAAC Red jamboree

Fowlerville shot a season-best 169 to finish fourth out of five teams at Wheatfield Golf Club.

Alex Mack and Isaac Farmer shot 41s for the Gladiators.
