PREP TRACK: 2 area athletes win regional titles; 27 earn automatic state berths

Washington, Nowata and eastern Osage County are set for an all-out invasion of this week’s state Class A, 2A and 4A state track meets.

More than two dozen athletes — collectively — from Dewey (4A), Caney Valley (2A), Pawhuska (2A) and Nowata (2A) powered to an automatic state-qualifying mark at this past weekend’s regional meets.

Among the area standouts were two regional champions — Caney Valley’s Jayden Allen (boys shot put, 46-feet-6.5-inches) and Oklahoma Union’s Raven Estes (girls 300m hurdles, :46.21).

In order to earn outright an automatic spot at a state, an athlete needed to finish in the top three of their event at the regional.

Area athletes that finished in the top three in regionals in two events included Estes (girls 300m hurdles, girls 100m hurdles), Allen (boys shot put, boys discus), Lauryn Jackson (Oklahoma Union, girls 1600m run, girls 3200m run), Pari Harper (Pawhuska, girls 4x200m relay, girls 4x400m relay) and Miya Curry (Pawhuska, girls 400m dash, girls 4x200m relay).
