Prep roundup for Thursday, Jan. 11

Jan. 11—Western's wrestling team notched its second dual meet victory in two days on Wednesday when the Panthers beat Wabash 42-24. Like Tuesday's match against Frankfort, the Panthers again used the meet to get experience for less-experienced wrestlers.

Keegan Tedder (126 pounds), Chase Sullivan (144), Brady Comer (150) and Devin Frazier (285) each won by pin. Carter Shannon (132), Brayden Watson (157) and Brody Burns (175) each won by forfeit.

"It was a good evening for some of our younger guys to get mat time," Western coach Chad Shepherd said. "They needed this experience they've gotten the last two evenings."

Western hosts the Hoosier Conference meet on Saturday.

CASS 42, PERU 36

Peru built a 24-0 lead, but Lewis Cass stormed back for the 42-36 win in the match at Walton.

"The big matches of the night were Eli Martin defeating Keaton Ousley by fall and Kamaron Hall finishing off the Tigers with a pin in the final match of the night," Cass coach Nathan Burrous said.

Martin won at 215 pounds and Hall won at 144. The Kings also had wins from Levi Bell (106), Dominic Sebastian (113), Eli Grist (120), Max Grist (126), Eli Bowyer (138) and Nick Park (190).

OLE MISS 48, EASTERN 36

Host Mississinewa won a dual meet over Eastern. For the Comets, Greyson Shrock, Andrew Cavasos, Gabe Mathis, Jami Howell and Evan Williams each won by pin. Bently Hullinger and Trenton Smith both won by forfeit.

GIRLS HOOPS

CASS 46, N. MIAMI 31

Kinsey Mennen scored a game-high 13 points as part of an all-around game to lead the Class 2A No. 15-ranked Kings to the road win in Three Rivers Conference play. Mennen also had game-high totals of seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

Also for Cass (15-2, 5-0 TRC), Aftin Griffin scored 12 points and Anna Hedrick, Faith Helvi, and Mylie Sipe scored five points each. Heta Kosunen had four points and three steals.

Cass holds sole possession of the TRC lead heading into a game against second-place Rochester (5-1) on Saturday.

OAK HILL 35, NW 15

Oak Hill opened a 15-5 lead at halftime and went on to post a victory over the visiting Tigers. Northwestern fell to 5-13, Oak Hill is 10-8.

GIRLS HOOPS

MCCUTCHEON 56, CARROLL 49

Freshman guard Lillie Graves scored 34 points to help McCutcheon rally past Class 2A No. 6-ranked Carroll.

The visiting Cougars led 28-18 at halftime and 41-30 after the third quarter before Graves took control in the final quarter.

Alli Harness scored 22 points to lead Carroll (15-3). The senior guard reached 2,000 career points when she made three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt early in the third quarter.

A Western Michigan recruit and the 2023 KT All-Area co-MVP, Harness is a McDonald's All-American nominee.
