Prep roundup for Monday, Nov. 27

Nov. 27—Maconaquah's Josiah Ball had a monster game and led five Mac players in double figures as the Braves opened up a significant early lead on visiting Taylor and cruised to an 88-59 victory in the Braves' season opener on Saturday night at Bunker Hill.

Ball scored 37 points. A.J. Kelly added 16, Ethan Zeiser 15, and Fuddy Kile and Braxten Birner had 10 each. Mac led 23-13 after a quarter, 42-31 at halftime, and was in control 64-42 after three quarters.

Mac coach John Burrus said it was a "great opening game for us. We put it together in the second half. We scored 46 and held them to 28. Ball was tremendous throughout this game. A.J. was great running our offense and finishing at the basket. Ethan Zeiser played great defense. Fuddy Kile made several hustle plays. Birner scored 10 off the bench.

"Our second-half defense was really pretty solid. Taylor will be tough this year. They attack the basket hard. It was a really good win for us."

Javionne Harris led Taylor (1-1) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Keyshawn Galloway had 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Connor Binnion had 13 points and four assists and Drey McClatchey had 12 points and four steals.

Both squads' next games are against North Miami. Taylor visits NM on Tuesday. Maconaquah hosts NM on Friday to open Three Rivers Conference play.

TWIN LAKES 71, WESTERN 69, 3-OT

Western's visit to Twin Lakes on Saturday was sure to be a memorable one. New Western coach Cam Bennington played at Twin Lakes and was going against his high school coach, Kent Adams. In addition, Twin Lakes was honoring Adams on Saturday by naming the court in his honor.

The game proved even more memorable as the rivals needed three OT sessions to determine a winner. It was tied at 42 after regulation, at 53 after the first OT and at 61 after the second OT. The Indians topped the Panthers 10-8 in the third OT for the win.

Western senior Logan Nelson was terrific in defeat. He made six 3-pointers and scored 32 points. Also for the Panthers (0-2), Amari Sutton scored 13 points and Hudson Biggs had nine points.

Avery Condo led the Indians with 23 points.

It was Western's first three-OT game since a 57-54 loss to Lebanon on Dec. 18, 2020.

GIRLS HOOPS

KOKOMO 51, ANDERSON 35

Aijia Elliott posted a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Wildkats to victory in their North Central Conference opener. Elliott's rebound total included nine offensive boards and helped Kokomo to a 36-23 advantage on the glass.

Satyra Scott added nine points for Kokomo (4-2 overall). Kamaria White had eight points, nine rebounds and a game-high five assists. Aviannah Pollard scored five points. MaKaela Drake and Amara Stroman scored four each with Drake and Pollard each taking four boards.

Gabby Douglass led Anderson (1-5, 0-2 NCC) with 13 points. Kennedy Brown had 10.
