Prep roundup: Mason baseball captures CAAC Red title

BASEBALL

MASON 6, ST. JOHNS 4 / MASON 2, ST. JOHNS 0

Colton McCaleb picked up the win in game one to go with a double and two RBI to for the Bulldogs as they captured the CAAC Red title with a sweep. Tyler Hall finished with two RBI and Travis Davis and Ryan Meyers each tacked on a RBI for Mason (17-8-1). Brandon Schomisch notched a team-high three hits and triple and Jordan Huhn chipped in two hits and two RBI for the Redwings (18-9-1).

CHARLOTTE 3, PORTLAND 1 / PORTLAND 2, CHARLOTTE 0

Nate Penfield had two hits while playing a part in the opening win for Charlotte (16-15). Paul Roberts picked up the pitching win to help Portland (14-7) prevail in the finale of the CAAC White doubleheader.

WILLIAMSTON 19, EASTERN 0 / WILLIAMSTON 30, EASTERN 0

Braden Johnson and Max Rancour each picked up victories on the mound as the Hornets secured a CAAC Red sweep over Eastern. Rudy Marinez went 4-for-5 with five RBI, Ben De Jaegher and Richard Cuzydlo each picked up three hits and three RBI and Brett Palmer finished with four RBI and four runs scored for Williamston. Beckett Stevens and Matthew Morse each notched a hit for the Quakers.

SOFTBALL

FOWLERVILLE 15, HASLETT 0 / FOWLERVILLE 6, HASLETT 4

Tommi Kleinschmidt collected the 100th hit of her career, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs while helping Fowlerville to the CAAC Red sweep. Tori Briggs had a home run and Angelle Haan had a three-hit game and McKayla Fletcher had three RBI for the Gladiators.

EATON RAPIDS 11, WAVERLY 6 / EATON RAPIDS 18, WAVERLY 9

Cheyenne Drinkwater and Riley Cutler had back-to-back home runs and Ari Brooks went 4-for-5 in the circle and earned the pitching win for the Greyhounds (17-12-1) in their opening win. Abi Pratt went 4-for-5 with a double and triple and Madelen Putnam had four RBI for Eaton Rapids in its win in the finale.

GOLF

CMAC TOURNAMENT

Laingsburg captured the CMAC title, shooting a 351 as a team at Forest Akers to win the league tournament. Pewamo-Westphalia shot a 351 and and Lansing Christian had a team score of 357. Kenny Thelen was the individual medalist with his round of 82, while Portland St. Patrick's Landon Simpson and Laingsburg's Aiden Maddaloni tied for second with rounds of 83. Laingsburg's Colin Hart and Perry's Aydin Sloan each shot an 84 to tie for fourth.

CAAC RED JAMBOREE

Mason shot a 144 as team to win the league jamboree hosted by Williamston. Haslett was the runner-up with a score of 147. Mason's Brock Straub and Haslett's Carter Gerard tied for medalist honors with their rounds of 33. St. Johns' Chris Stewart and Mason's Luke Petee finished tied for third and each shot a 36.

SOCCER

EAST LANSING 8, FOWLERVILLE 0

EAST LANSING ― Eliana Rojas had three goals and Kinsey McAndrews found the back of the net twice and had three assists for the Trojans in their Bronze Cup win. Olivia Preisser and Ty Wysong each had two assists.

DEWITT 1, GRAND LEDGE 0

The No. 2 seed Panthers advanced to the CAAC Gold Cup title game with a win over No. 3 seed Grand Ledge.

LANSING CATHOLIC 1, EATON RAPIDS 0
