PREP ROUNDUP: Decatur Heritage opens tournament with win

Feb. 3—Nash Thomas turned in a dominating performance as Decatur Heritage opened the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament with a 70-31 victory over West End on Friday, finishing with 31 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Eagles.

Decatur Heritage controlled the game from the tip, leading 21-6 after one quarter and 38-17 at halftime. Brady Wilson had 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Eagles, while Paxton Tarver added 10 points. Hayden Page finished with seven points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Conner Walker led West End with 12 points and Marty Wooten scored eight.

Decatur Heritage will play the winner of Friday's second semifinal between Falkville and Holly Pond for the tournament championship on Monday, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Decatur Heritage girls 65, West End 25: Emma Eastman poured in a game-high 18 points as Decatur Heritage opened the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament with a big win on Friday.

Leslie Hames had 17 points for the host Eagles, while Katleyn Cooper added 14 points. Genie McGhee finished with six points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

Decatur Heritage will host the winner of Friday's second semifinal between Falkville and Holly Pond for the tournament championship at Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Priceville girls 59, Ardmore 49: Abby Langlois led three Priceville players in double figures with a game-high 17 points on Thursday.

Ashlyn Johnson had 14 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (16-11), while Gracin Prater added 12 points. Alexis Gray (13) and Preslie Sanders (10) each scored in double figures for Ardmore.

Danville girls 45, Covenant Christian 22: Adily Alberti had 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals in a win over Danville on Thursday.

Reagan Prater had nine points for the Hawks, while Maddie Sherrill and Aubrey Reed added six points each.

Clements girls 61, Lexington 35: Leah Childress led Clements with 16 points in a win on Thursday.

TayTay Farrar had 20 points for the Colts, while Taylor Farrar added 10 points.

Athens Bible School girls 46, St. Bernard 45: Brooke Blakely scored a team-high 16 points as the Athens Bible wrapped up the regular season with a win on Thursday.

Addison Simmon had 10 points for the Trojans, while Brooke Piscitelli added seven points. Athens Bible opens play in the Class 1A, Area 15 tournament today against VAlley Head at Skyline.

Athens Bible School girls 40, Whitesburg Christian 23: Blakely led the Trojans with 11 points in a win on Tuesday.

Piscitelli had eight points for Athens Bible, while Avery Boggs and Peyton Rogers added six points each.

Priceville boys 49, Ardmore 40: Sammy Holmes became just the sixth player in Priceville boys basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career point barrier on Thursday, finishing with 31 in a win over Ardmore.

Holmes also finished with eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Caleb Lawrence added seven points and five rebounds.

West Limestone boys 61, Tanner 59 (OT): Easton Smith scored a game-high 22 points as West Limestone picked up an overtime victory on Thursday.

Walker Wynn had 11 points for the Wildcats, while JT Winter added 10 points. Skylar Townsend led Tanner with 20 points.

Plainview boys 66, Brewer 51: Austyn Holmes and Jackson Dunn had 14 points each for Brewer on Thursday.

Cason Oden added 13 points for the Patriots, who led 24-23 at the half.

Mae Jemison boys 55, East Limestone 39: Jeb Blanton led East Limestone with nine points on Tuesday. Chandler Moore scored eight points for the Indians.
