Prep Girls Tennis Roundup: Willmar tops NLS in non-conference match

Sep. 27—WILLMAR — The Willmar girls tennis team beat a very good New London-Spicer team 5-2 on Saturday in a non-conference match.

The Cardinals earned victories at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.

Willmar's closest victory came at No. 4 singles. Adali Laidlaw beat the Wildcats' Avery Dierenfeld 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-3.

Izzy Schmiesing earned a victory at No. 1 singles for NLS. She beat Allison Bruhn 6-1, 6-4.

Willmar (6-3 Central Lakes, 9-5 overall) is host to Sartell in a conference match at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. New London-Spicer has a non-conference match with Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at 4:30 p.m. Monday in New London.

Litchfield Invitational

Delano took home first-place honors at the Litchfield Invitational, scoring 33 points.

The Tigers beat second-place Owatonna (23) and third-place Annandale (21). Litchfield and Staples-Motley tied for fourth with 20 points. Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg finished eighth with two points.

Litchfield's top singles finisher was Karlee Prahl at No. 2 singles. Prahl posted a 2-1 record to finish second in her division. In doubles, the Dragons' No. 1 team of Kylie Michels and Britney Prahl also placed second with a 2-1 record.

The Benson/KMS doubles team of Eleanor Habben and Milgo Abdi finished in sixth place, going 1-2.

Litchfield plays Delano for the Wright County Conference overall championship at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Litchfield. Delano's the first-place team in the East Division. Litchfield is in first place in the West.

Benson/KMS is host to Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a West Central Conference match.
