Prep football roundup for Sept. 8: Seahawks hold off Parker for home victory

Sep. 8—BRIDGEWATER, S.D. — Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan's Drake Gustafson had a first-quarter touchdown run that stood up as the game-winning score on Friday night, as the Class 11B No. 3 Seahawks held off Parker for an 8-6 home victory.

For BEE, Macklen Weber had a team-high 59 yards on 15 carries. The Seahawks had 108 yards on the ground, plus 44 passing yards. Jason Zeeb and Kean Stevenson each had nine tackles for the Seahawks.

For Parker, the Pheasants scored just before halftime when Michael Even scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes remaining in the second quarter. Even had 95 yards rushing, and Landon Wieman had 96 yards passing. Levi Wieman posted 13 tackles and Jake Stone had 11 stops for the Pheasants.

BEE (4-0) will host Sioux Valley in a matchup of Class 11B unbeatens on Sept. 15, while Parker (1-3) hosts Clark/Willow Lake.

PLATTE, S.D. — Caden Oberbroekling hit a 20-yard field goal in the second overtime to lift Platte-Geddes to a home win over rival Kimball/White Lake on Friday night in nine-man football.

Oberbroekling's kick was the only points of overtime, which saw the Black Panthers stop the Wildkats twice on downs when KWL had the ball.

The Wildkats had a late rally to come back from 14 points down at halftime. Blake Leiferman caught a pair of touchdown passes, one from Park Sinclair and another from Iden Myers with 1:27 remaining in the game to tie the game. Myers also had two interceptions in the game, including a key takeaway on Platte-Geddes' first OT possession.

For P-G, Jye Bailey threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter, finding Tanner Dyk from five yards out and Kasen Konstanz from four yards out.

Platte-Geddes (2-1) plays at Viborg-Hurley on Sept. 15, while KWL (1-3) will visit Potter County.

SCOTLAND, S.D. — Mount Vernon/Plankinton rushed for 338 yards and picked up 20 first downs for a road win at Scotland/Menno on Friday night.

Brady Fox scored the first three touchdowns of the night on scoring runs for the Titans, and Isaiah Olson had a short touchdown run for MVP to hold a 30-6 halftime lead. Overall, MVP outgained Scotland/Menno 367-96.

For the Trappers, Logan Sayler scored on a 75-yard kickoff return and Trent Guthmiller had a 1-yard touchdown run.

MVP (3-1) will host Rapid City Christian on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Mount Vernon, while Scotland/Menno (0-4) will host Baltic in Menno on Sept. 15.

AVON, S.D. — Aziah Meyer rolled to 234 rushing yards and five touchdowns, as Class 9B fourth-ranked Avon earned its third win of the season on Friday night.

Meyer scored on runs of 4, 28, 56, 60 and 17 yards to lead the Pirates, as Tyler Tjeerdsma added 92 rushing yards on seven carries with the game's opening score from 32 yards out. Paxton Bierema completed three passes for 45 yards, including two for 30 yards and a touchdown to Landon Thury, and rushed for 35 yards in the win.

For Gayville-Volin, Spencer Karstens went 11-of-23 passing for 111 yards with one touchdown and one interception and tacked on 92 yards rushing with a touchdown. Hunter Wuebben was the recipient of a 15-yard scoring strike from Karstens and also had a 70-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Avon (3-1) hosts Hitchcock-Tulare in a Class 9B ranked matchup next week, while Gayville-Volin (1-2) is also at home against Centerville.

GREGORY, S.D. — Gregory scored 38 points in the second quarter on Friday night to earn a nine-man football victory over Bennett County. The game ended in the third quarter via the 50-point rule.

Gregory's Landon Keiser scored three times, with touchdown runs of 30 and 55 yards, plus a 10-yard interception return. Rylan Peck had a 24-yard touchdown run, Taos Weborg scored from 16 yards out on a scoring run and Lincoln Juracek scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Gregory (1-2) will visit Irene-Wakonda on Sept. 15, while Bennett County (0-4) hosts New Underwood next week.

HOWARD, S.D. — A big night from quarterback Taiden Hoyer helped Class 9AA third-ranked Howard notch a home win over Colman-Egan in nine-man play on Friday night.

Hoyer completed all five of his pass attempts for 122 yards and added four carries for 138 yards on the ground, accounting for four Tiger touchdowns. Jackson Remmers and Luke Koepsell were each on the end of a Hoyer scoring pass, and Remmers added a first-quarter touchdown run and a 45-yard scoop-and-score in the second quarter. Kade Grocott and Lucas Feldhaus also had touchdown runs for Howard.

The connection between Jack Mousel and Jase Mousel produced all three Hawks scores on the night, coming on passes of 39, 4 and 27 yards.

Howard (3-1) visits unbeaten Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy, in Freeman, next week. Colman-Egan (0-3) hosts Estelline/Hendricks.

WHITE RIVER, S.D. — Lyman quarterback Brayden Oldenkamp used his legs to score the game-tying touchdown and game-winning two-point conversion, as the Raiders emerged victorious in overtime for the second straight week.

Oldenkamp had a hand in four of Lyman's five touchdowns, finishing with two rushing, one passing and even catching a 61-yard score from Carter Erikson on a trick play. Kellen Griffith had a rushing touchdown and Rory McManus caught a touchdown for the Raiders, who received votes in the Class 9A poll this week.

Nicolas Marshall led the way for White River, throwing touchdown passes of 54, 9 and 21 yards in addition to a 7-yard scoring scamper that gave the Tigers their first lead of the game in overtime. Ryatt Wooden Knife sent the game to an extra period with a 61-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Lyman (4-0) is off next week before hosting a big West River showdown against Wall on Sept. 22, but not before White River (3-1) visits Wall next week.

SALEM, S.D. — Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central scored 22 unanswered points and improved to 3-0 with a victory at McCook Central/Montrose on Friday night.

WWSSC's Holden Havlik had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and added a 10-yard score in the third quarter, plus another 15-yard touchdown run in the second half.

Ty Morrison caught a 26-yard touchdown to power MCM to an early lead and an 8-6 advantage at halftime.

WWSSC (3-0) will travel to Miller/Highmore-Harrold on Sept. 15, while MCM (1-3) plays at Elk Point-Jefferson on Sept. 15.

WAGNER, S.D. — Gannon Knebel had a hand in five touchdowns on Friday night as Wagner flew past Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian for a win between Class 11B foes.

Knebel had touchdown runs of 60, 20, 26 and 20, plus a 10-yard touchdown pass to Shea Kjeldgaard in helping the Red Raiders build a 24-6 halftime lead.

Mason Reiner had a one-yard touchdown run for the Thunderhawks, and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Loeffler to account for the TDAACDC scoring.

Wagner (2-1) will travel north to play at Sisseton on Sept. 15. TDAACDC (2-2) off next week and will play at Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central on Sept. 22.

BERESFORD, S.D. — Winner improved to 4-0 on the high school football season with a big effort in the second half to win at Beresford.

Aiden Barfuss scored two touchdowns on the ground, with scores from 7 and 13 yards out and Karson Keiser had a 33-yard touchdown run before halftime, when Winner led 12-6, and he added a 75-yard touchdown on a kickoff return late.

Gus Bartels scored on a 4-yard touchdown run for the No. 1-ranked Warriors, and forced a fumble that was picked up and run back 41 yards for a touchdown by Kellen Brozik.

Winner (4-0) heads west next week to play at Lead-Deadwood on Saturday, Sept. 16. Beresford (0-3) will travel to play at Flandreau on Sept. 15.

Colome 50, Burke 28

COLOME, S.D. — Colome earned its first win of the season behind an offense outpouring against Burke.

Quarterback Eli Vobr opened the game with a 29-yard touchdown pass, and running back Seth Heath scored on a 10-yard touchdown moments later to go up 14-0 in favor of the Cowboys.

Burke's Kaleb Schonebaum countered with a 19-yard touchdown run, but Vobr returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Vobr rushed for a 18-yard touchdown, putting the Cowboys up 26-6. After a second Burke score, Vobr tore down the field for a 61-yard touchdown rush to go up three scores before halftime.

Burke (0-4) visits Corsica-Stickney on Sept. 15, while Colome (1-2) goes to Sully Buttes.
