PREP FOOTBALL: Miners get comeback win over Greencastle
Oct. 28—Visiting Greencastle gave second-ranked Linton all it wanted Friday night in a Class 2A Sectional 37 high school football game, but the Miners finally prevailed 26-21 at Roy Williams Field.
Linton never led in the first half as Lamar Moore scored on a long run and Owen Huff caught one touchdown pass and threw another for the Tiger Cubs.
The Miners got within 7-6 on a touchdown by Paul Oliver and tied the score 14-14 on a touchdown by Jesse Voigtschild and a 2-point conversion, but it was 21-14 in Greencastle's favor at halftime and the visitors were getting the ball to start the second half.
Linton's defense pitched a second-half shutout, however, and Oliver — who had 188 yards on 31 carries — scored two touchdowns. With Greencastle driving for a possible go-ahead score, Oliver sealed the game by intercepting a pass that had been tipped by lineman Hank Gennicks.
Now 10-1, Linton will host Southmont this Friday for the sectional championship. Greencastle finished 8-3.
