Pregame social media buzz prior to Texas’ matchup with West Virginia
Will Texas finally get back into the win column this week?
Typically, pregame buzz is full of excitement and nerves heading into conference matchups. Considering the Longhorns are riding a five-game losing streak, with the most recent being to Kansas at home, fans have seemingly lost confidence in the team.
It’s clear that first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian plans to revamp the roster this offseason. In one of his media availabilities, he mentioned potentially 33 new scholarship players on the team for next season.
It’s needed.
There are uncertainties and inconsistent play at just about every position on the team outside of running back. However, there is still something to play for in the final two games of the season.
If Texas can defeat West Virginia and Kansas State, they will become bowl eligible. If nothing else, it would provide an opportunity to get in a couple extra weeks of practice for the young players.
The Longhorns and Mountaineers enter this matchup fairly even on paper. Both programs have underperformed compared to their preseason expectations and possess identical 4-6 records on the year.

I am talking myself into Texas tomorrow at West Virginia. My logic is that Texas is so not back that they might have to be back soon.

When Texas plays West Virginia, the away team has won 70% of the time.#TEXvsWV

I continue to not like the “tea leaves” regarding this game and expect the Texas Longhorns – even if embattled – to ride into Morgantown giving their best game of the season.
The WVU Mountaineers will have to give their best one to win it today.— JayBirdLewis (@WestBGVirginian) November 20, 2021
