Potent offense leads Morris, Cooperstown boys to home wins

Dec. 22—After falling behind early, the Morris boys basketball team rallied to defeat DeRuyter 76-53 at home Friday in a non-league matchup.

The Mustangs had three players score at least 17 points and used a 30-point third quarter to pull away for the win.

Ryan Murphy led the scoring with 22 points while Carter Sawyer scored 20, Tiger Ross had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Asa Dugan scored 11 points and Keegan Fraser pulled down 14 boards.

Morris (5-1) will be at the Madison Tournament next Wednesday.

Cooperstown 67, Sherburne-Earlville 53

The Cooperstown boys defeated Sherburne-Earlville 67-53 at home Friday.

Charlie Lambert scored a game-high 23 points while adding four assists and four steals.

Brody Murdock registered 16 points and four assists, Jackson Crisman and Cooper Coleman each scored 10 points and Cooper Bradley pulled down 10 rebounds.

Cooperstown (5-3 overall, 2-2 league) will host the Dick White Tournament next Wednesday and Thursday.

Sidney 49, Unatego/Franklin 47

The Sidney boys held off Unatego/Franklin for a 49-47 road victory Friday in Midstate Athletic Conference action.

Connor Van der Sommen scored a game-high 24 points for the Sabers while Grady Loeffler had 12 points.

Xander Johnson led U/F with 18 points while Braeden Johnson and Reese James scored 11 and nine points, respectively.

Sidney will be at the Greene Holiday Tournament next Wednesday while U/F will be playing in the Chenango Valley Christmas Tournament the same day.

Oxford 55, Unadilla Valley 39

Oxford took down Unadilla Valley 55-39 on the road Friday in a Midstate Athletic Conference game.

Donovan Rickard led the Blackhawks with 16 points while Caden Rifanburg had 10 points and Elijah Bennett and Jared Sheridan each scored nine.

Zach Smith and Denzel Peter led UV with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Oxford will be at the Edmeston Tournament next Thursday while UV will host its Holiday Tournament next Wednesday.

Richfield Springs topped Canastota 59-45 in Thursday's non-league home contest.

Bradyn Dunckel hit five of the Eagles' 10 three-pointers to finish with a game-high 25 points. Dylan Hosford added 12 points in the win.

Richfield Springs will be at the Dick White Tournament in Cooperstown next Wednesday.
