Portage HS scores | April 15: Miranda Long homers as Waterloo softball surges to win

Waterloo softball surged to a 7-run lead, powered in part by a 2-run homer from Miranda Long, and held on for a 10-7 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier win over Lowellville.

Taylor Brown doubled and singled for Waterloo (2-3, 2-2) while Savannah Francis also doubled.

Pitcher Kristlyn Kehrer picked up her second win, striking out nine hitters.

Field 4, Springfield 2

The Falcons won a critical Metro Athletic Conference showdown with the Spartans, who won a share of last year's league title. Maddie Burge tossed a four-hitter to move to 6-0 in the circle for Field.

Delilah Rahe sparked the Falcons (7-0, 5-0) at the plate with a single and a double.

Aurora 18, Revere 11

The Greenmen scored 18 runs in the first five innings to build a hefty lead, which proved enough to withstand a furious rally from the host Minutemen.

Aurora racked up 20 hits, including a pair of doubles and three RBIs from McKennah Metzger.

Sophie Retton also had a huge game for the Greenmen, going 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs.

Sophie Petrash and Sophie Schecterman both tripled for Aurora.

A whopping eight players recorded multiple hits for the Greenmen: Lailah Bohanan, Madeline Dalessandro, Julia Miller, Avery Qualters, Metzger, Petrash, Retton and Schechterman.

Southeast 18, Warren JFK 3

The Pirates scored 11 runs in the first to take full control.

Morgan Muncy had a remarkable day, going 3 for 3 with a single, double and homer, and racking up three runs and three RBIs. The sophomore also struck out six over two scoreless innings.

Like Muncy, Lexi Morris and Ava Stephens homered.

Like Muncy, Izzy Schuller went 3 for 3 at the plate.

Cloverleaf 13, Ravenna 3

The Colts scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings to build a sizable lead.

Mallory Sterba had a big game for the Ravens, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Baseball

Garfield 2, Newton Falls 1

Eric Geddes tossed another gem and led the G-Men's 2-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to pick up a key MVAC Grey Tier victory over the Tigers.

Geddes tossed a 5-hitter, striking out 11 while yielding just one run and one free pass.

Down 1-0, Geddes also plated both Garfield runs with a 2-RBI double.

Field 12, Coventry 1

Kayden Smith tossed a two-hitter to help the Falcons remain undefeated.

Grady Eader singled and doubled, Caden Kolesar knocked in three runs and Smith tacked on a double for Field, which led 3-0 after four innings before pulling away with nine runs in the fifth.

Ravenna 4, Springfield 3

The Ravens rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up their first win.

James Evans tossed six strong innings to lead Ravenna on the mound, with Connor Welling picking up the save, while Rylan Eldredge drove in three of the Ravens' four runs.

Woodridge 7, Streetsboro 0

Jack Linton tossed a three-hit shutout for the Bulldogs to score a key MAC win over the Rockets.

Josh Boldin had two hits, including a double, to lead Streetsboro.

Lake Center 10, Southeast 2

Dylan Maninga tossed six sterling innings to help the Tigers (10-0, 3-0 Portage Trail Conference) stay undefeated, striking out 11 while yielding a single hit and unearned run.

Tennis

Ravenna 3, Field 2

The Ravens swept singles play, with Preston Hatcher (first), Derick Skilton (second) and Lily Schofield (third) all prevailing in straight sets. The Falcons hung tight by sweeping doubles play, as Bryce Cannon and Walter Siegfried (first) and Logan Hobday and Noah Manno (second) picked up victories.
