Portage high school scores | Jan. 3: Roosevelt swim and dive sweeps Highland for sixth win

The Roosevelt boys and girls swimming and diving teams each picked up its sixth win with a sweep of Highland on Wednesday.

Rough Riders juniors Adam Springer (50 free, 100 back) and Ethan Bruner (200 free, 500 free) picked up two titles apiece, while freshman Kadin Pyka added championships in the 100 free and 200 IM.

Junior Parker D'Sidocky added a diving title, while the Rough Riders also placed first in the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays to top the Hornets 133-42.

Senior Gabriella Melin helped lift the Roosevelt girls to a 114-69 win over Highland with first-place finishes in the 200 and 500 free. Freshman Trinity Heath also won two titles, in the 50 and 100 free, and freshman Coco Golden (100 fly) and senior Jeanie Barzellato (100 breaststroke) also captured championships.

Junior Ella Houk added a first-place finish off the diving board, and the Rough Riders also won three relay titles (200 medley, 200 free, 400 free).

Girls Basketball

Rootstown 69, Mogadore 22

The Rovers (11-0, 3-0 Portage Trail Conference) scored 21 points apiece in the first two quarters to surge past the Wildcats.

Nadia Lough (nine points, 10 rebounds) and Brooklynn McIntyre (14 points, seven rebounds) led Rootstown inside, while Kelsey Bittecuffer and Abby White each had two 3-pointers.

Revere 48, Roosevelt 38

The Minutemen outscored the Rough Riders 31-21 in the second half to pull away after a 17-17 halftime tie.

Hadley Hajdu and Hailey Janke led Revere with 15 points apiece, with the duo combining to tally nine steals.

Claire VanDamme (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Zariyah Taylor (nine points, 12 rebounds) had double-doubles to lead Roosevelt, which also got four 3-pointers from Julia Nash (12 points, four steals).

Boys Basketball

Garfield 57, Berkshire 53

Preston Gedeon caught fire, draining four 3-pointers and hitting 7 of 8 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 23 points.

Nick Edic (nine points), Eric Geddes (nine), Aidan Hill (seven) and Vince Yukich (seven) all added multiple buckets for the balanced G-Men.

Jack Hastings scored nine points apiece in the third and fourth quarters to lead the Badgers with 22 points, and Mason Mendolera added 17, including three 3-pointers.

Mogadore 63, North 47

Four players finished in double digits as the Wildcats (4-3) picked up their third straight win.

Nick Stephenson had 19 points to lead Mogadore, and Corey Lehner (15), Tanner Buso (13) and Layne Miller (11) each drained multiple 3-pointers for the Wildcats.
