Tulare County athlete of the week: Redwood's Alexis Lopez
Redwood softball player Alexis Lopez was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County high school athlete of the week.
In an online poll that closed on May 10, Lopez received 21,435 votes, or a 88% majority, of the 24,388 responses.
Lopez hit a grand slam, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs to help the Rangers to a 25-3 victory over Mt Whitney.

Landon Ashford, track and field, El Diamante: Ashford placed first in the pole vault at the 2024 East Yosemite League championship meet.
Jaden Castillo, diving, El Diamante: Castillo claimed the 2024 CIF Central Section Division II diving crown.
Arianna Diaz, track and field, Mt. Whitney: Diaz, a freshman, won the EYL's 3,200-meter individual championship.
Dallas Harris, track and field, Redwood: Harris captured the 100- and 200-meter championships at this season's EYL championship meet.
Alexis Lopez, softball, Redwood: Lopez hit a grand slam, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs to help the Rangers to a 25-3 victory over Mt Whitney.

Maleena Martin, softball, Mission Oak: Martin tossed six strikeouts in a complete game shutout as the Hawks soared past Tulare Union 6-0. She also had two hits.
Miles Munger, baseball, Exeter: Munger, the winning pitcher, blasted a home run and scored three runs to help the Monarchs beat Immanuel 15-8.
Jordan Rhyner, baseball, El Diamante: Rhyner pitched a complete game to lead the Miners to a 3-0 win over Monache. He had five strikeouts in a one-hit winning performance and also had a hit, run and RBI.
Ryleigh Schoonover, track and field, Porterville: Schoonover won the 800-meter individual title at the EYL championships.
Zach Simmon, baseball, Central Valley Christian: Simmon fired nine strikeouts in five innings to lead the Cavaliers to a 6-0 shutout win over Washington Union. He also went 2-for-4 hitting with a double, RBI and run.
Nominations are based on information available to the Times-Delta.
All high school varsity players from Tulare County can be on the ballot. Nominations must be received for consideration by Monday morning following that week's games.
