Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: 5 biggest announcements from the new trailer

There’s been a brand new dump of information for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and this 15-minute trailer has plenty of new stuff for fans to get excited over. This hasn’t been released in the usual format of a Pokémon Direct or Pokémon Presents stream, instead, the full trailer has been uploaded to The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel. Yes, that is the full name of the channel.

Whether you’re the kind of Pokémon trainer that enjoys training strong competitive monsters, or the type that just likes collecting cute creatures, this is the game for you. There are new features that’ll suit your tastes regardless of your preferred playstyle, and we’re going to break down all of that and more below for the new Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet trailer

Once you’re done with the trailer, check our list of all the new Paldea Pokémon.

Farigiraf

Let’s start with the big one. They only went and did it. Girafarig now finally has an evolved form, and it’s called Farigiraf. Inspired. Instead of the dual-headed giraffe-like creature we had before, now the two heads have become one. Or, one is inside of the other. Still, it’s nice to see this classic Pokémon get a new evolved form, making it relevant once again.

Tera Types

We got introduced to the concept of Terastallizing already – Pokémon now have Tera Types, and Terrastallizing allows you to swap to that Tera Type, giving battles another layer to consider. We now have confirmation that you can encounter wild Terastallized Pokémon, compete in Tera Raid battles with other players, and most importantly, all 18 types can be the Tera Type of every Pokémon. This means every Pokémon’s weakness could be covered by their Tera Type in a pinch, making finding the right creature more important than ever.

Starfall Street

Starfall Street is a brand new type of challenge you can undertake. This is a Team Star base, and once you invade, it’s time to battle. Here you’ll be sending out Pokémon in a system that’s closer to an RTS game, with them fighting by themselves as you hold off multiple enemy Pokémon at once. This is all part of one of the three storylines you undertake over the course of Scarlet & Violet. The trailer also teases that the boss battle in Starfall Street is different from battles we’re used to, but we’ll have to wait to play the game to see how.

Customization and photo mode

Models for characters and Pokémon are more detailed than in previous Pokémon games, meaning when you change your hairstyle or outfit, the results are more pronounced than ever. So of course, there are loads of options for both hairstyles and costumes, and how to flaunt them too. Not only is there a new and improved photo mode, but you can also take a selfie and pose with a cute Pokémon, and make that your new profile picture.

Sandwich minigame

You can camp and play with your Pokémon just like in Sword & Shield, and now you can even find Eggs while hanging out here. But most importantly, you can make a sandwich. You get a big loaf of bread, and you start stacking vegetables and meat. If it holds together and you can skewer it, it’s a success. This essentially replaces curry, but is far more interactive than ever before.
