Playoff preview: Breaking down the postseason for Palm Beach County boys basketball teams
It's the week we've been waiting for all winter. District tournaments are back for Palm Beach County's high school basketball teams!
Boys high school basketball teams around the state will tip off on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and go on to battle for the championship on Saturday, Feb. 10. Then, winners will officially be on the winding road to FHSAA state championships in Lakeland.
Here's a district-by-district breakdown of Palm Beach County's best boys basketball programs, and the Post's picks for champions and underdogs. Local teams are indicated in bold. Find the girls' schedule by clicking here.

District 8-1A
Host: Higher-seed
When? Feb. 6 semifinals: No. 2 Vanguard vs. No. 3 Glades Day, Feb. 10 finals: No. 1 Pahokee vs. Vanguard/GD
Favorite: Pahokee
What to know: Blue Devils finished regular season with 17 losses ... both wins in 2023-24 came against Glades Day (1-16)... entering postseason No. 606 in Florida, No. 38 in 1R, and No. 7 in Region 4. Pahokee led by sophomore small forward an point guard Javian Jones, averaging 13.1 points per game. Vanguard is 2-9 against -4.99-rated schedule to 0.42 for Pahokee.

Defenders, led by 21-plus point scorers Landen Harwood and Chase Troncale, both juniors, have yet to defeat GVP (lost 88-68, 73-52 in regular season) and fell by three points to Atlantic Christian in December, but playoff experience could help surprise come finals.

Lions enter No. 201 in Florida, No. 34 in 3A, and No. 8 in Region 2, led by junior point guard Javian Jones, averaging 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. What to know: St. Andrew's (17-6) in driver's seat to defend district championship, still hosting senior point guard Brooklyn Vick on the roster ... enter postseason No. 81 in Florida, No. 14 in 3A, and No. 5 in Region 4. Saint John Paul II could be dark horse, touting slightly tougher rout of opponents than Scots and having found identity without now-graduated team staple Kyle Edison since 62-45 loss to St. Andrew's at top of season. Coached by FAU men's basketball alum Seydou Kone, SJPII (12-10) came six points shy of forcing overtime at Newman, which came back late to defeat Scots, 66-61, in last week of regular season.

What to know: Battle-tested Calvary Christian squad led by Palm Beach County natives Stone Bureau, Cayden Daughtry, and Collin Paul set to reestablish itself as district champs after going freelance in 2023 ... enter postseason No. 13 in Florida, No. 4 in Class 4A, and No. 2 in Region 4. Eagles (14-8) didn't face any district opponent during regular season .... focused on facing powerhouses like Lake Worth, which fell 83-58 to three-time state champions. North Broward Prep (19-6) most likely to meet CCA in finals, but Heritage-Delray could pull off an upset with proper adjustments after 37-30 defeat from NBP in January.

Blanche Ely (14-9) will be tough, having faced Lake Worth, Sagemont, NBP and more, but likely no match for team of Panthers fueled by recent upset losses from Lakes and Jupiter. Atlantic program coached by playoff veteran Tony Watson could ride out momentum of four-game win-streak to reach finals ... enter postseason No. 255 in Florida, No. 34 in 6A, No. 15 in Region 4.

Wolverines (20-4) defeated Lake Worth, 59-54, on Jan. 26 ... enter postseason No. 42 in Florida, No. 13 in 7A, No. 7 in Region 2. Palm Beach Central (19-6) has chops to pull off semifinal upset of Wellington, proven by 53-52 holiday tournament victory, but lost to LW, 59-34, in early season. LW enters playoffs No. 29 in Florida, No. 9 in 7A, No. 4 in Region 2.

Lions have little varsity experience from team's seniors to underclassmen, but finished regular season 13-11 ... enter postseason ranked No. 293 overall, No. 60 in 7A, No. 15 in Region 4. Stronger schedule could leave Park Vista (7-14) more prepared for playoff scenarios ... lost to OH, 60-57, on Jan. 25. Stoneman Douglas (11-13) could swoop in from three-seed ... defeated OH, 60-54, in third game of season.
