He also has used his curveball frequently, throwing it 26.6 percent of the time. … He has never faced the Cubs in his major league career. … Steele will be making his seventh start this season, though the Cubs have not been asking much of him. He has yet to throw more than five innings or exceed 80 pitches. … He allowed two runs in four innings against the Dodgers in his most recent start. … He has allowed just one home run in 22 innings. … His fastball averages 92.4 mph. He also throws a slider, curveball and the occasional change-up.

Cubs update: The Cubs have struggled early on, going 10-19 entering play Wednesday. That’s the third-worst record in the National League and the fifth-worst in baseball. … Their starting rotation has been particularly poor with a 5.00 ERA so far. Drew Smyly, Friday’s starter, is the only member of the rotation with an ERA below 4.00. … Catcher Willson Contreras has been the club’s best hitter, with a .292/.400/.483 slash line.
