Pine Bush grad, Orange student Goodenough named top volleyball scholar-athlete in state

Pine Bush graduate Maggie Goodenough, a sophomore defensive specialist/libero at SUNY Orange, was named the scholar athlete of the year for women’s volleyball for two-year schools in New York.

Goodenough is a nursing major who posted a 4.0 grade point average last fall and owns a 3.97 GPA over her first three semesters.

Her efforts during her sophomore season led to all-star honors to the Mid-Hudson Conference first team and second team All Region XV. She led Orange in kills, digs, digs per set and total points. Her stats over 20 matches included 130 kills, 38 assists, 33 aces and 278 receptions.

She set the Orange career record with 799 digs – the 415 she posted last season was the most by an Orange player over the past 10 years and ranked No. 29 in the nation at Division III.

All 20 winners of the SUNY Fall Scholar Athlete Awards will be eligible for the overall athlete of the year.

There are more than 14,000 student athletes competing at State University of New York institutions representing 53 colleges and universities at the levels of NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and National Junior College Athletic Association level.

SUNY Orange bowed in the finals of the Mid-Hudson tournament and semifinals of the region tournament.
