Phoenix Suns trade speculation includes Deandre Ayton, James Harden, T.J. McConnell

Could the Phoenix Suns trade for the Indiana Pacers' T.J. McConnell?
Could the Phoenix Suns trade for the Indiana Pacers' T.J. McConnell?

After signing Bol Bol in NBA free agency earlier this month, it appeared that the Phoenix Suns might be done making changes to their roster in the offseason.

But NBA trade speculation and rumors surrounding the team continue to circulate on social media and in stories.

And some very interesting names are included in the speculation.

James Harden, Killian Hayes and T.J. McConnell are among the names swirling as potential acquisitions for the Suns, while Deandre Ayton's name continues to show up as a potential trade chip for Phoenix.

Any moves from the Suns would require some creative thinking and maneuvering due to Phoenix's current salary cap situation.

Could the Suns feasibly still make any moves? Check out what some NBA sites and writers are saying.

Last Word on Sports: Trade for T.J. McConnell would be challenging for Suns

Jordan Pagkalinawan wrote: "For all of this talk about McConnell being moved, a path to such a trade is more challenging than it sounds. The Suns had to start from scratch this offseason, as only a handful of players remained from last season’s roster. They won’t be able to engage in a sign-and-trade scenario until December 15, when newly signed players can be traded. As for a win-now trade, that option is likely out the window. The Suns are already short on assets, even with the trade exception generated via the Cameron Payne deal. The fact that they are a second-apron team (meaning they can’t absorb more salary than what they give out in a trade) hampers their options."

Bleacher Report: Suns should trade Deandre Ayton to Pacers for Myles Turner, T.J. McConnell

Grant Hughes writes: "The Pacers are natural partners here, considering they inked Ayton to the $133 million offer sheet Phoenix matched in 2022. Though depth is less of an issue now than it was before the Suns' ridiculously successful minimum-signing bonanza, getting multiple players in exchange for Ayton should still be a priority. Here, Phoenix gets a floor-spacing center in Turner who'll block more shots than Ayton, plus a point guard in McConnell who might deserve to start (or even close) over incumbent Cameron Payne. Of their extremely limited options, the Suns could do a lot worse than Turner, McConnell and a little under $3 million in salary savings this season."

Fansided: Deandre Ayton to Mavericks seems unlikely now

Noah Weber writes: "Dallas' front office could have been iffy on Ayton fitting next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. He isn't necessarily the type of center that Dallas usually has, but his talent is top-tier. Dallas could have tried to make him fit, but it would have taken some time. This is all speculation at this point, as anything is possible and Phoenix could change their mind and want to trade him, but an Ayton trade to Dallas seems unlikely now, and in the future."

Fansided: Would you trade Deandre Ayton for James Harden?

Luke Duffy wrote: "The only conceivable way then that the Suns could hope to still add Harden if they wanted to, would be in a deal that sent center Deandre Ayton to the 76ers. That makes no sense for the other team is this theoretical deal however, because as of this moment their best player is league MVP and dominant big man Joel Embiid. He is going nowhere. For now. What about getting a little crazier with this one, and sending Ayton to the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard to the 76ers and Harden to the Suns? Despite Lillard insisting on going to the Miami Heat, he would form a fierce duo with Embiid. Ayton in Portland alongside Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe kickstarts that rebuild too."

Clutch Points: Suns must target Killian Hayes in offseason

Jesse Cinquini wrote: "At this juncture, only time will tell if the Phoenix Suns will stand pat with their current roster or decide to add more players via trade. But what's already abundantly clear is that the Suns would be wise to target point guard Killian Hayes via trade. Not only is he a borderline elite facilitator at just 21 years old, but the Suns likely wouldn't have to break the bank to acquire him, considering his scoring inefficiency in the 2022-23 season."

NBA Analysis: Suns a 'dark-horse' trade suitor for James Harden

James Piercey wrote: "We know, we know. This is crazy, right? It couldn’t possibly happen? Well, it isn’t likely. The Phoenix Suns already have Devin Booker and Bradley Beal on their roster. Do they really need another ball-handling guard? Do they have the cap space or the trade assets to land Harden? If they’re willing to give up Deandre Ayton for him, that is. The Sixers won’t want him – barring a Joel Embiid trade request, that is. Still, if the Suns could arrange a three-team deal, who knows? They could convince Harden to expand his list of preferred destinations."

Sports Illustrated: Could Deandre Ayton to Mavericks trade talks be revisited?

Dalton Trigg wrote: "The reported trade offer the Mavs made the Suns for Ayton on draft night, per (Marc) Stein, was Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes and JaVale McGee. The Suns balked at that offer, but if Ayton isn't showing a willingness to stay in Phoenix before the season starts, perhaps they revisit those negotiations with the Mavs."

Marc Stein reported that Phoenix is still interested in Indiana Pacers point guard T.J. McConnell, who has been linked to the Suns in previous speculation.

Fansided: Mavericks could explore chance to trade for Deandre Ayton

KD Jain wrote: "The interest in Ayton is not unfounded. The young center is a force to be reckoned with on the court, and his agent, Billy Duffy, also represents Mavs star Luka Doncic and rookie Olivier-Maxence Prosper. This connection could potentially reignite trade discussions between the two teams. One factor that might have hindered the trade talks earlier was the Mavericks' cautious approach regarding their 2027 first-round pick. However, with Ayton's talent and potential, the Mavericks may reconsider their stance and explore possibilities to acquire the talented big man."
