The Philadelphia Eagles have taken five Georgia football players the past two NFL Drafts

The Philadelphia Eagles continue piling up Georgia football defensive players Saturday in the NFL Draft.

The Eagles used the third pick of the fourth round — and 105th overall — to select cornerback Kelee Ringo.

He became the third player in this draft from the Bulldogs taken by the Eagles and fifth member of the 2021 national championship defense now on Philadelphia's roster.

That includes four starters — Ringo, defensive linemen Jordan Davis, outside linebacker Nolan Smith and inside linebacker Nakobe Dean — and top backup Jalen Carter, who became an All-American in 2022.

The Eagles traded a third round pick in 2024 to get Ringo who was surprisingly available after three rounds.

"He doesn't have to come in and be Superman here," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said on ESPN mentioning established players in the secondary. "He can come in and can learn and kind of bide his time. We're talking about a 20-year old corner who has played at the highest level, one of the top recruits in the country coming out. We were excited to get him."

Ringo took it in stride falling lower than projected. Most had him as a second-round pick.

"I saw the trend of them getting Nolan and also Jalen Carter and I was like this definitely is a possibility of this happening," Ringo told reporters in Philadelphia. "I'm just overall thankful to get the opportunity to be on a team, let alone a team where all of my friends are going to be on."

Carter’s wait in the green room in Kansas City Thursday night ended with him going to a team with some familiar faces in the locker room.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded up a spot to grab the All-American defensive tackle from Georgia with the No. 9 overall pick in the first round.

Carter will play on an Eagles defense that includes a pair of 2022 NFL draft picks from the Bulldogs, Davis (first round) and Dean (third). It also has one from the national title team of last season because the Eagles took another Georgia guy, outside linebacker Smith with pick No. 30.

Dean was hanging out with Smith at his draft party at Chateau Elan in Braselton.

"That's an exciting moment for me," Carter told reporters in Philadelphia who cover the team about joining Davis and Dean. "Them guys were the leaders on the 2021 team and I just know if I got any questions, I can ask them and also ask anybody else on the team."

Dean took to Twitter with his reaction after Carter's pick: Yesssssiiiiiirrrrrr.

Davis had a similar response: OOOWEE with an Eagle emoji and tagging Carter with his Twitter handle Breadmanjalen.

Carter said he spoke to Davis on Wednesday and him and Dean traded texts before the draft.

"That's a big thing when you go away to college and you know somebody there, that helps," Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. "When you come into a profession and you know somebody, I know that helps and these guys know a lot of guys here."

Carter shed tears as he walked to the stage, and when he hugged commissioner Roger Goodell.

“Day one when I get there it’s time to work and we’re finnin to win the Super Bowl,” he said.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart was in Kansas City for the draft and mentioned Davis’ name when talking about where Carter would fit in on an NFL team given the character concerns that have surrounded him in the pre-draft process.

“I think all the NFL teams that will be picking have a great environment,” Smart said on ESPN’s College GameDay draft show. They have older players that are like big brothers to the rookies. He had that in Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt (now with the Packers). I think that’s important. I think a strong D-line coach is great. I think Jalen fits a lot of teams because he’s a really good football player.”

Carter was still a top 10 pick but some teams may have shied away from him after he pleaded no contest to reckless driving and racing in connection with the Jan. 15 crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy.

Roseman called it "a tragic night and we're sorry for the loss to those families. We're not trying to downplay that situation."

As for Carter, he said: "We've got to develop the people, we've got to develop the player. For us, we take that part seriously."

Carter said the Eagles "didn't really ask much about that accident that happened. It was pretty much getting to know me and the love I've got for football. Just getting to know my personality."

Roseman said the team spent "a lot of time investigating the incident around it. We talked to Jalen about a variety of things."

Carter was the No. 1 overall prospect by ESPN’s Mel Kiper.

He was asked on ESPN after he was selected about the range of emotions he’s gone through.

“It’s a lot,” he said. “It’s time to work. The Eagles got the best player in the draft.”
