Phillips finishes third at Valspar

Mar. 25—PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Playing in his 12th PGA Tour event, Chandler Phillips eclipsed the top-five mark for the first time at the Valspar Championship.

Phillips, who is a Huntsville native, battled for four days at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Florida.

After two days of playing, Phillips led the pack shooting a 136 two-day total. With a ticket punched to the weekend, Phillips had to battle a tough outing on Saturday.

Phillips shot a 70, which was one under par. He attacked on Sunday by making a push for the lead after back-to-back birdies to start the back nine.

Phillips finished the event with two eagles, both on hole one, 13 birdies and nine bogies on the course. He finished the weekend with a total score of -9.

Peter Manati took home the title with a -12 over the weekend. Manati finished Sunday with a 67, four under par, to take home the top prize.

Phillips will now turn his attention to the Texas Children's Houston opens on March 28. The event is held at Hermann Park and will extend from March 28-31.
