Philadelphia Eagles look likely to draft wide receiver John Ross

Despite signing wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith during free agency, all indications are that the Philadelphia Eagles may not be done improving the position. With the NFL Draft quickly approaching and with the fact that the event is being held in Philadelphia this year, everyone supporting the hometown Eagles will want to see their team make a big splash.

While I doubt that the Eagles will make a big trade to get up inside the top five or something, one type of splash they could make is to select Washington wide receiver John Ross. Setting a 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine, there is no doubting the speed of Ross. What makes his potential selection even better is that head coach Doug Pederson already looks to have fallen in love with him.

Speaking about the receiver, Pederson appears to have already fallen in love with the receiver. If Pederson gets his way with how the Eagles spend their draft picks, John Ross could be Philly’s first round selection this year.

“Well, a guy like that, he’s dynamic, has good speed, elusive, quick, short-area quickness is the things you see on film with him and on tape. He’s a guy, I think, wherever he ends up, could potentially be a difference-maker because of the speed and that elusive quickness with the ball in his hand.”

So far, the feeling appears to be mutual between the Eagles and Ross. Despite running his record setting 40-yard dash, Philly was the only team that he visited before he had his shoulder surgery. While there are some concerns about this and his previous knee injuries, Ross has the looks of someone that can lead the Eagles receiving corps for years to come.

While Torrey Smith already provides the Eagles with a speed option, Ross reminds many of DeSean Jackson. Given the amount of success he brought the Eagles when he played for them, it is not surprising to see the team go back and try to land DeSean 2.0.
