Why did Princess Diana wear an Eagles jacket?

While she wasn't necessarily an Eagles fan, Princess Diana did have somewhat of a connection to Philadelphia by the way of Grace Kelly.

The jacket became synonymous with Princess Di when she was photographed wearing the kelly green attire for the cover of the June 13, 1994, cover of People.

According to People magazine, here's how Princess Diana got the jacket:

"As the story goes, the Princess of Wales received the jacket from the Eagles’ statistician Jack Edelstein after they connected at the funeral for Princess Grace of Monaco in 1982. Before she became a movie star and married Prince Rainier, Grace Kelly was a Philadelphia native and family friend of Edelstein.

"The statistician got to talking with Princess Diana and learned her favorite colors were green and silver — the shades of the Eagles team.

"After their meeting, Edelstein promised to send Diana some gear — and came through with a package that included the now-iconic bomber."

Kelly green jerseys return to Philly

Fans were in an uproar when the Eagles announced over the summer that the throwbacks would return to the field this fall.

The fan-favorite jerseys were worn by Birds' players during the team's Sunday Night Football win against the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 22.

Fans have clamored for the jerseys since 2010, when the Eagles last wore them in a Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
