PFF ranks 3 Lions offensive linemen as Detroit’s top players

Over at Pro Football Focus, the analysts took on an interesting project. They came up with the top three players for all 32 NFL teams entering the 2022 season.

For the Detroit Lions, the results show exactly where the strength of the team lies: the offensive line.

All three of the players earning the nod from PFF are offensive linemen. Center Frank Ragnow tops the list, followed by offensive tackles Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell. Even with Ragnow coming back off injury, it’s clear he’s one of the very best linemen in the league.

Decker and Sewell profile as one of the better tackle duos in the NFL after Sewell started to settle into the right tackle spot over the second half of his rookie season. Ragnow, meanwhile, is an elite NFL center. He’s improved his overall PFF grade every season in the NFL and has graded above the 90th percentile as a run blocker in gap and zone schemes at center over the past three seasons.

Tight end T.J. Hockenson was the only player in the “also considered” list, and he often aligns on the OL too. Detroit is built to be great in the trenches and PFF believes the Lions are there on the offensive side of the ball.
