The Texas baseball team closed out its first weekend of Big 12 play with a 9-7 win at Texas Tech.

The victory secured a much-needed series win for the Longhorns, who entered this weekend with a four-game losing streak. Texas crushed Texas Tech by 14 runs on Friday before dropping a 7-2 contest on Saturday.

Texas Tech (11-4, 1-2) and Texas (9-6, 2-1) were ranked 17th and 24th in this week's D1Baseball poll.

Texas found itself trailing by two runs on Sunday when Texas Tech outfielder Gage Harrelson robbed Peyton Powell of a two-run homer in the third inning, and that deficit increased to three runs by the end of the fourth inning. Texas, however, scored six times over the next three innings and it entered the eighth inning with a 9-7 lead.

Leading the charge offensively was Powell, who drove in a run in each of his three plate appearances after Harrelson's catch. Powell homered in the fifth frame, doubled in a run in the sixth inning and contributed a sacrifice fly in the seventh session.

Texas reliever Gage Boehm made the 7-6 lead that Texas grabbed in the sixth inning stick. Boehm was credited with a four-inning save on Sunday. He allowed two hits and one run while striking out three Red Raiders.

Texas will return to action when its hosts Incarnate Word on Tuesday night. Washington's baseball team is then coming to Austin next weekend for a three-game series.
