Petition for Baker Mayfield's Heisman Park statue to depict flag plant gets thousands of signees

Saturday night, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield will be the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.

Well, there’s a small chance he won’t win the trophy. But that chance is so small that hedging may not be worth it.

Anyway, in anticipation of Mayfield’s win, a Change.org petition was created asking for Mayfield’s statue in Oklahoma’s Heisman Park to depict his flag plant at Ohio State after the Sooners won in Columbus in Week 2. It has over 4,000 signatures in a week.

The school’s Heisman Park depicts all Sooner winners of the trophy. The school’s most recent winner, Sam Bradford, is getting ready to throw a pass in his statue. And other winners are in football poses. So the chances of the petition succeeding are smaller than the chances of Mayfield not winning the Heisman Trophy. After all, he apologized for what he did in Columbus in the days after the game.

But at least the movement to have the flag plant be memorialized forever is far more wholesome than a statue of Mayfield grabbing his crotch.

Or even a statue of Mayfield throwing a football off the head of a TCU player.

You get the idea. Kudos to you, Seth Truitt, for getting thousands of people on board with your idea. Keep dreaming, because the statue won’t become reality.
