Pete Prisco takes Jaguars over Texans in Week 12 AFC South showdown

Coverage of Houston Texans picks over the past couple seasons has been as predictable as moon phases. How many times will a prognosticator predicting a loss stay relevant?

Now that the Texans are getting frisky in the AFC playoff race for the first time since 2019, who picks what maintains a certain fascination.

According to Pete Prisco from CBS Sports, the Texans go down to the Jaguars in Week 12’s matchup at NRG Stadium.

This is for first place in the division, with the Texans owning the Jaguars in recent years, winning 10 of 11 and blowing them out earlier this year. But the Jaguars got back on track last week and Trevor Lawrence played well. That will continue here as the Jaguars take command of the division.

Pick: Jaguars 27, Texans 23

Who may have gotten off track was rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud with his three interceptions. Nevertheless the No. 2 overall pick threw 27 passes on 37 attempts for 336 yards and two touchdowns. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik wanted Stroud to still play wide open, and that aspect of the offense was fine — only the ball security.

As long as Stroud is still prolific, one would have to consider how safe a Jaguars win truly is, even if the Texans’ rookie had turnover issues.
