Perfect Start: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports performers for April 1-7

The spring high school sports season is in full swing in the Greater Taunton area.

After a couple of early matchups last week, the rest of the area teams kicked off their seasons this week, with a couple looking to defend their state titles while other hope to reach that pinnacle come June.

Here's a look at all of the stats, scores and highlights from the first week of April.

Saturday

Baseball

Jack Cali led the way for Taunton (2-0, 2-0 Hockomock), going six shutout innings giving up three hits and a walk while striking out nine as the Tigers beat North Attleboro 2-0 at home in Hockomock action. Caden Lindskog led the way at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a run while Cam Dorr went 0-for-1 with a run off a walk and Dwayne Burgo went 1-for-3. Ryan Crowley earned the save, tossing a shutout inning giving up a walk while striking out one.

Jack Haley led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0), going 2-for-4 with a run and a pair of RBIs as the Trojans beat Whitman-Hanson 11-1 in six innings at home in non-league action. Bobby Quill went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, Jack Ritchie went 0-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs, Quinlan Keefe went 0-for-2 with a pair of runs and an RBI and Connor Nichols went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Vincent Tavares earned the win for B-R, going four shutout innings giving up five walks and a pair of hits while striking out three and going 1-for-2 with an RBI at the plate.

Softball

Sam Lincoln led the way for Taunton (2-0, 2-0 Hockomock), tossing a complete game shutout giving up a hit and a walk while striking out 13, as well as 1-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBIs, as the Tigers beat North Attleboro 11-0 in Hockomock action. Bella Bourque led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs while Molly Carnes went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Mia Torres went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and Madison Crowley went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs off her first varsity hit.

Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0) beat Plymouth North 10-5 at home in non-league action.

Boys Lacrosse

Nikos Triantafillou led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (3-0) with five goals, while Jayson Kelleher and Braeden Silva each had a pair as the Trojans scored eight goals in the fourth quarter to earn a 14-9 win over Apponequet at home.

Friday

Baseball

Jack Haley led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0), going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs at the plate while also earning the win in relief, going two and a third innings giving up an unearned run and two hits while striking out one, as the Trojans beat Mansfield 9-5 at home in non-league action. Quinlan Keefe went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs while Tyler Cattoggio went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and Jace Chapman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs. Jack Ritchie ended up with the no decision for B-R after going four and two-thirds innings giving up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.

Softball

Bree Aldrich led the way at the plate for Bristol-Plymouth (0-1), going 2-for-4 with a run as the Craftsmen fell 9-3 to Mansfield on the road in non-league action. Aubrey Mabrouk took the loss, going five innings giving up nine runs (six earned) on nine hits while striking out three and went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Shelby Estrella went 2-for-4 while Taryn Greer scored a run while pinch running.

Boys Lacrosse

Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0) beat Dover-Sherborn 15-13 at home.

Bristol-Plymouth (2-0, 2-0 MAC) beat Southeastern 6-5 on the road in MAC action.

Dighton-Rehoboth (0-2) fell 12-5 to Bellingham on the road in non-league action.

Boys Tennis

Bridgewater-Raynham (0-2) were swept 5-0 by Plymouth North on the road in non-league action.

Girls Tennis

Bridgewater-Raynham (0-2) fell 4-1 to Plymouth North at home in non-league action.

Boys Track and Field

Amin Abbassi (javelin and discus) and Jack Hannigan (400 meter and triple jump) both led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0, 1-0 Southeast Conference) with a pair of doubles wins as the Trojans beat New Bedford 120-16 on the road in SEC action. Also earning wins for B-R were Kauan Bento in the 100 meter, Joey Manning in the 200 meter, Malik Washburn in the 110 meter hurdles), Connor Johnson in the 400 meter hurdles, Dan Leet in the 800 meter hurdles, Cole Bridges in the mile, Ben Chase in the two mile, Bryce Sullivan-Evans in the shot put and Carl Plasir in the long jump. The 4x100 meter relay team of Manning, Evan Bray, Johnson and Bento and the 4x400 meter relay team of Leet, Ryan Hall, Riley Frisch and Bridges also scored wins for the Trojans.

Girls Track and Field

Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0, 1-0 SEC) defeated New Bedford 110-24 on the road in SEC action.

Boys Volleyball

Taunton (1-3) was swept 3-0 by Greater New Bedford at home.

Boys Lacrosse

Taunton (0-2, 0-2 Hockomock) fell 14-0 to Foxboro on the road in Hockomock action.

Dighton-Rehoboth (0-1) fell 12-10 to Middleboro on the road in non-league action.

Girls Lacrosse

Maddi Szala led the way for Taunton (0-2, 0-2 Hockomock) with two goals while Cali Melo had a goal and three draw controls as the Tigers fell 20-3 to Foxboro at home in Hockomock action.

Boys Volleyball

Ian Hoskins led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (4-0, 4-0 TVL) with 11 kills while Yasiel Rodriguez had 23 assists, Sam Courcy had 15 digs and Connar Dexter had nine kills and six blocks as the Falcons beat Millis 3-0 (25-18, 25-21 and 25-20) on the road in TVL action.

Boys Volleyball

Travis Johnson led the way for Taunton (1-2) with 22 kills and four blocks while Daniel Freitas had 32 aces and four kills, Dantae Bauer had 10 digs, Syre Duverna had eight kills and a dig and Donny Providence had six kills and nine digs as the Tigers fell 3-2 to King Philip (22-25, 25-17, 12-25, 25-22 and 9-15) on the road.

Ian Hoskins led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-0, 3-0 TVL) with 12 kills while Yasiel Rodriguez had 25 assists, Sam Courcy had 23 digs and Connar Dexter had nine kills and six blocks as the Falcons beat Norton 3-0 (25-17, 25-21 and 25-21) on the road in TVL action.

Tuesday

Softball

Edy Latour led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (1-0), tossing a complete game no-hitter giving up five walks while striking out seven and going 1-for-2 at the plate with a double as the Falcons beat Silver Lake 1-0 at home in non-league action. Caleigh Cloonan went 2-for-2 with an RBI on a ground rule double while Emma Horrocks went 0-for-2 with the lone run after advancing on an error.

Boys Lacrosse

Nikos Triantafillou led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0) with seven goals and two assists as the Trojans beat Bishop Feehan 15-10 on the road. Brendan Rosher had three goals and three assists while Colin Fitzsimmons went 21-for-24 on draws and recorded a pair of assists and goalie Shaun LaCivita made nine saves.

Girls Lacrosse

Cali Melo led the way for Taunton (0-1, 0-1 Hockomock) with five goals while Maddi Szala had three, Taryn Campbell had two and Caroline Vallarelli had one as the Tigers fell 20-11 to Oliver Ames at home in Hockomock action. Goalie Olivia Espada made 10 saves in net for the hosts.

Kelsey Palmer scored the game-winning free position goal with 1:20 left to play as Dighton-Rehoboth (1-0) beat Norton 13-12 at home in non-league action. Karina Bosco led the way for the Falcons with six goals and a pair of assists, as well as nine draws, while Mara Levesque had four goals, Olivia Thibert had two goals and three assists, Palmer had a goal and an assist and Ainsley Zibrida had an assist. Goalie Ava Escobar made nine saves in net for D-R.

Boys Track and Field

Ancil Alexander led the way for Taunton (1-0, 1-0 Hockomock), winning both the shot put (49'8.5", personal best) and discus (144'1", personal best) as the Tigers beat King Philip 75-61 on the road in a Hockomock dual meet. Also scoring double wins were Anthony Pettijohn in the long jump (19'3") and triple jump (38'7.5") and Drew Alves in the 110 meter hurdles (0:16.6) and high jump (5'2"). Other winners include Dmitrius Shearrion in the 100 meter (0:11), Brayden Salvo in the 200 meter (0:24.2, personal best), Usman Yusif in the 400 meter (0:55, personal best), Elijah Perez in the javelin (127'6") and the 4x100 meter relay team of Shearrion, Omari Rodrigues, Kadon Jordan and Salvo (0:46.2)

Girls Track and Field

Renee Leao led the way for Taunton (0-1, 0-1 Hockomock) setting three personal bests as she won the 400 meter hurdles (0:17.1) and finishing third in both the 100 meter hurdles (1:17) and javelin (71') as the Tigers fell 87-49 to King Philip on the road in a Hockomock dual meet. Other dual meet wins include Sophia Olaniyan in the discus (101'7", personal best), Ciara Pina in the high jump (4'6", personal best) and the 4x100 meter relay team of Chloe Blanco, Shauna Belgrave, Larissa Cardoso and Sophia Hall (0:56.4).

Monday

Baseball

Caden Lindskog led the way at the plate for Taunton (1-0, 1-0 Hockomock League), going 2-for-2, including a triple, with with a pair of runs and an RBI as the Tigers beat Sharon 7-3 at home in Hockomock action. Joe Benoit, in his varsity debut, went 2-for-2 with a pair of triples, a run and an RBI while Andrew Cali went 0-for-1 with a pair of runs on a pair of walks. Brady Morin earned the win for Taunton, tossing four shutout innings in relief giving up a pair of hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven.

Kyle Weldon led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (1-0), going 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI while also tossing a scoreless inning in relief striking out one as the Craftsmen fell 9-6 to Nauset on the road in non-league action. Cam Wilbur went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Colton Carvalho took the loss for B-P, going four and two-thirds innings giving up seven runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out three.

Softball

Sam Lincoln was perfect for Taunton (1-0, 1-0 Hockomock) in the season opener, striking out all 15 batters she faced as the Tigers beat Sharon 17-0 in five innings on the road in Hockomock action. At the plate, Molly Carnes led the way, going 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs while Bella Bourque went two-for-four with two runs and three RBIs, Aniyah Bailey went three-for-four with a run and a pair of RBIs and Mia Torres went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Boys Lacrosse

Blake Mitchell and Kevin Araujo both found the back of the net as Taunton (0-1, 0-1 Hockomock) fell 10-2 to Oliver Ames on the road in Hockomock action.

Bristol-Plymouth (1-0, 1-0 Mayflower Athletic Conference) beat Tri-County 10-4 at home in MAC action.

Girls Lacrosse

Emily Keefe and Emily Long each had a pair of goals for Bridgewater-Raynham (0-2) while Lexi White had a goal and an assist as the Trojans fell 17-5 to Braintree at home in non-league action.

Bristol-Plymouth (0-1, 0-1 MAC) fell 12-1 to Tri-County on the road in MAC action.

Boys Tennis

Taunton (0-1, 0-1 Hockomock) fell 5-0 to Sharon on the road in Hockomock action.

The duo of Wyatt Cooley and Andrew Wagner won first doubles as Bridgewater-Raynham (0-1) fell 4-1 to Plymouth North at home in non-league action.

Girls Tennis

Taunton (0-1, 0-1 Hockomock) fell 5-0 to Sharon at home in Hockomock action.

Bridgewater-Raynham (0-1) fell 4-1 to Plymouth North on the road in non-league action.
