Patriots Week 13 injury report: Offense takes big blow on Wednesday

Injuries are nothing new for the New England Patriots, but at some point, it has to be disheartening seeing key players go down. Such was the case on Wednesday with the team returning to the practice field after Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants.

Rookie wideout Demario Douglas, who has been the team’s best receiver outside of veteran Kendrick Bourne, was out with a concussion. That immediately puts his status for the Patriots’ Week 13 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in doubt.

It’s a tough blow for a Patriots team that has struggled to get production out of their receivers. Now, they could be forced to do so without Bourne and Douglas on the field.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott, center David Andrews, linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley and offensive tackle Trent Brown were also limited participants at practice.

The Patriots are entering one of the most difficult stretches in their schedule, and they’ll be doing so with turmoil at the quarterback position.

Mac Jones split quarterback reps in last week’s game with Bailey Zappe, and Malik Cunningham was seen taking reps at Wednesday’s practice. Given the questions under center and injuries on the offensive side of the ball, the Patriots have a huge hill to climb in preparation for Sunday’s game against a desperate Chargers team.
