Patriots assistant coach reportedly leaving for Duke opportunity

With things currently up in the air for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots’ coaching staff, it has created a situation for some to make considerations for job opportunities elsewhere.

On Wednesday, 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported Patriots assistant coach V’Angelo Bentley has accepted a job as the cornerbacks coach at Duke.

The Patriots signed Bentley as a rookie undrafted free agent back in 2016, but he was cut before the start of the season. He played professionally in the Canadian Football League before finally making the transition to coaching. During his run in New England, he served in the NFL Coaching Fellowship on defense.

Others could follow in Bentley’s footsteps, if the Patriots continue to drag out the situation involving Belichick.

As the Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi recently pointed out, the staff remains in the dark on the situation, which puts them in a vulnerable position at a time when teams are beginning to hire coaches.
