Patrick Beverley on why the Nets should give Kyrie Irving a long-term contract

Kyrie Irving has said he hopes to remain in Brooklyn and “dominate” the rest of the league for the next few years, but GM Sean Marks has made it clear that the organization is evaluating whether it wants to commit to Irving long-term.

Irving is entering a potential player option year, but has the ability to walk away and become a free agent. The Nets could offer him an extension, but that could be a very costly gamble given Irving’s injury history and availability issues.

Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley, for one, believes Irving deserves a long-term contract.

“I don’t think there’s anyone else like Kyrie out there. And we’ve seen this past year, it’s not about money with Kyrie, obviously, we’ve seen that. Strong and committed in his beliefs, but you don’t find another player like Kyrie.

…. When it comes to playing basketball, he’s going to pack the house. He’s going to be the most skilled player on the floor at all times.”
