Parkston recognized as SD VFW Baseball community of the year
Dec. 18—PARKSTON, S.D. — The community of Parkston was honored recently as the South Dakota VFW Youth Baseball Community of the Year for 2023.
The monetary award of $1,000 is distributed based on categories, among others, such as attitude, sportsmanship, respect, local engagement/involvement, community leadership, promotion of VFW youth baseball and communication with state leaders.
The funding was provided to the Parkston Baseball Association, Parkston VFW Post and the city of Parkston and will go toward youth baseball efforts. Parkston and The Pond ballpark hosted the Class B 16-and-under state tournament in August.
"The award was distributed to Parkston in recognition of the extraordinary participation of the Parkston VFW Post 3298 members and the community," Department of South Dakota VFW Baseball Chairman Danny Frisby-Griffin said.
Awards were also distributed to Parker ($500), Britton ($250) and Scotland/Menno ($250) for their positive relationships with SD VFW Baseball.
