Panthers reportedly signing free-agent S Jaylinn Hawkins to 1-year deal

The Carolina Panthers might’ve just landed a ball hawk.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the team is expected to sign free-agent safety Jaylinn Hawkins to a one-year deal.

Hawkins was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He spent three and a half seasons with Carolina’s NFC South rivals—recording 22 starts over 48 games with 121 combined tackles, half a sack, four interceptions, nine passes defensed and a forced fumble.

Atlanta would waive Hawkins on Oct. 17, 2023. He’d later be claimed by the Los Angeles Chargers, who gave the 26-year-old defensive back three starts over 10 games to close out the campaign.

If Hawkins puts pen to paper, he’d be the third free-agent addition to the Carolina secondary over the past few weeks. The Panthers also signed fellow safety Jordan Fuller, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, as well as former Buffalo Bills cornerback Dane Jackson.
