Panthers RB Miles Sanders hopes new QB knows ‘we’re not rebuilding over here’
Miles Sanders is fresh off playing on the biggest stage in the game—and he’s not planning on waiting too long to get there again.
In his first press conference since signing with the Carolina Panthers this offseason, the 25-year-old running back was asked by ESPN’s David Newton about potentially playing with a 5-foot-10 quarterback. (Yes, he means Bryce Young.)
Here was his response:
“What I’ve seen out of Bryce Young?” he said of the current favorite to be selected No. 1 overall. “I only watched—well, he’s been in every national championship game, I think. I’m not really too big on college football like that. But, uh, I know he’s a Heisman. Very good quarterback that plays at a high level. He plays in the SEC, and winning in the SEC.
“I mean, whoever we get—hopefully, it’s the best guy in the draft. And hopefully, whoever comes here just knows it’s time to work and we’re not rebuilding nothin’ over here, we’re trying to get straight to it.”
Sanders, who is coming over after a career campaign with the reigning NFC champions, inked a four-year, $25 million deal with Carolina. He played an integral part in getting the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, a thriller of a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs that ended in a bitter defeat.
And Sanders, obviously, doesn’t seem too keen on keeping that taste in his mouth for any of his four prospective years in Charlotte—no matter who is under center handing him the rock.
