Panthers ‘made inquiries’ on CB Shaquill Griffin, who’s signing with Jaguars

All smoke and no fire is the story today for the Carolina Panthers on the free agency front.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the team was in on DL Denico Autry (Titans) and CB Michael Davis (Chargers) before they agreed to sign with their respective teams.

David Newton at ESPN reports the Panthers “made inquiries” on former Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who’s agreed to a deal with the Jaguars – the same team that’s signing Carolina tight end Chris Manhertz.

It’s frustrating to watch other teams get better while your own acquires mediocre offensive linemen, but for now at least there are still several good cornerbacks available.

The group is headlined by former Seahawks and 49ers corner Richard Sherman, who thrives in the cover 3 system Phil Snow uses and could impart a lot of wisdom for a young Panthers secondary – the same as he did for San Francisco.
