Palm Desert High golf cruises to CIF-SS Division 1 title by nine strokes
The Palm Desert boys' golf team has high aspirations this season and completed phase one of their postseason plan Monday, picking up the CIF-SS Division 1 title with relative ease at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta.
The Aztecs shot a team total of 363 in the six-play-five-count format, which was nine strokes better than runner-up San Marcos.
It's Palm Desert's sixth CIF-SS boys' golf title. They also earned that honor in 1992, 1993, 1998, 2017 and 2019.
The Aztecs have a lot of young talent, but on this day it was senior Mason Montogmery who turned in his best round with a 3-under-par 69, one stroke away from bringing home the individual title which went to Shaoujun Stephen Luo of Anaheim Discovery Christian with a 68.
Behind Montgomery for the Aztecs was Luke Ringkamp and Austin Woods who both fired a 70, tying for third place overall. Max Margolis added a 75 and twins Landon and Caden Breisch both shot 79, one of which counted and one of which was the score that went unused.

Margolis and Landon Breisch logged some frequent flyer miles, taking a red-eye flight from Pennsylvania where they played in the USGA Four-Ball Championship, a national championship they qualified for last October, to make it to Monday's competition.
Palm Desert and all of the top 10 teams from this event advanced to Thursday's CIF-SS individual championship and team CIF-SCGA qualifier at Temecula Creek Golf Club.
