Packers ticket prices run from very expensive (Detroit) to very cheap (New York)

GREEN BAY – Green Bay Packers ticket prices are all over the board this week.

All are lower than last week, even if by only a little, but the difference between the most expensive and the least expensive is eye-popping. The average get-in price for the Detroit Lions game on Thanksgiving Day is $355, down $11 from last week, while the get-in average for the New York Giants game on Dec. 11 is a whopping $47, about half what it was in August when Giants fans thought they had a chance at NFL glory, but instead find themselves cheering for one of the saddest franchises in the league. The price is determined by averaging the lowest prices of 11 secondary marketplaces.

First, the Packers, who lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday after breaking a four-game losing streak the week before, host the Los Angeles Chargers at Lambeau Field, where the get-in price on Monday was $93, down from $105 last week. Both are less than the lowest face-value price of $129 for end zone seats.

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon carries the ball against Green Bay Packers defensive back Darnell Savage during the fourth quarter at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles on Nov. 3, 2019, the last time the teams played. Gordon is now with the Baltimore Ravens. Savage remains with the Packers. The Chargers won the game 26-11.

The same cannot be said for the next Packers home game, against the Kansas City Chiefs and their chief fan, Taylor Swift, on Dec. 3. The get-in average is $152, down $9 from last week. It still is not known if Swift, who will be on break from her The Eras Tour, will attend, but Chiefs boyfriend Travis Kelce, who was on a bye last week, turned up at one of her concerts in Argentina for a quick hug and kiss. So, odds are ...

The 3-6 Packers will have their hands full against the 4-5 Chargers, 7-2 Detroit Lions and 7-2 Chiefs before landing in New York to face the 2-8 Giants, where they might be handing tickets out on street corners by then.

Ticket prices

For our look at Packers' tickets prices, we average the lowest ticket prices at 11 secondary-market websites: Event USA, GametimeGreen Bay Ticket Service,  SeatGeekStubHubTicketIQTicket KingTicketmasterTickPick, TicketSmarter and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket brokers can add fees on top of the prices listed here, so actual costs might be higher.

The Packers announced they will sell standing-room-only tickets for all home games this season. The face value of SRO tickets is $93. The SRO section is on the fourth level of the south end zone.

As the standing-room-only tickets are designated as not available for resale, any tickets found on the secondary market cannot be verified, so buyers should proceed at their own risk. If fans purchase standing-room-only tickets on the secondary market and encounter issues with the tickets, their only recourse would be to contact the ticket seller.

The get-in price averages do not include standing-room-only tickets.

The following are secondary market ticket prices as of Nov. 13:

Nov. 19, noon, Lambeau Field, Los Angeles Chargers, Fox

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $93

Price on Nov. 6:  $105

Range of lowest-cost seats: $75-$129

Rams results: Los Angeles is 4-5. The Chargers were defeated 41-38 on Sunday by the Detroit Lions.

What matters about this game? The Chargers expected a better year than they've had so far and might be beatable, especially at Lambeau Field, where they are 1-4 all time.

This is the second and final Gold package game of the season. Being a noon start, it's much preferred by the mostly southern Wisconsin tickets holders over the Thursday night game they had in September. Deer season begins on Saturday and the Packers haven't played especially well, but Chargers fans don't travel with the same enthusiasm as Packers fans (plus there are so few of them), so it's anybody's guess whether Lambeau on Sunday will be decked in orange, green and gold, or blue and white.

Nov. 23, 11:30 a.m., Ford Field, Detroit Lions, Fox

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $355

Price on Nov. 6:  $366

Range of lowest-cost seats: $285-$445

Lions results: Detroit is 7-2. The Lions defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 41-38 on Sunday.

What matters about this game? This is potentially the most brutal game left on the schedule, if only because the Lions will take such glee in pounding the Packers, who lost their last four games against their longest-running opponent. The Packers lead the series 105-76-7, even with a long history of abysmal play in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day.

Curiously, Detroit topped one study as the best city for visiting NFL fans, which belies its less-sterling reputation. Casino website BonusFinder.com said Ford Field ranked high as an iconic stadium and for the number of bars within walking distance, a whopping 129 in a one-mile radius.

USA Today ranked Ford Field as the 10th best NFL stadium (out of 30). "The food, particularly Slows Bar BQ, is fantastic, and the Bloody Marys are good and spicy," the reviewer said.

So there's that.

Dec. 3, 7:20 p.m., Lambeau Field, Kansas City Chiefs, NBC

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $152

Price on Nov. 6: $161

Range of lowest-cost seats: $126-$230

Chiefs results: Kansas City is 7-2. The Chiefs were on a bye last week.

What matters about this game? If the Packers are playing better, it will be their chance to knock off the defending Super Bowl champs and one of this year's best teams. Also, a chance to see Patrick Mahomes do his thing. If not, see Taylor Swift above.

Dec. 11, 7:15 p.m., MetLife Stadium, New York Giants, ABC

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $47

Price in August was: $86

Range of lowest-cost seats: $36-$59

Giants results: New York is 2-8. The Giants were defeated 49-17 on Sunday by the Dallas Cowboys.

What matters about this game? The Packers are struggling this season, which was not unexpected. The Giants also are struggling and, after their 9-7-1 season last year, it is very much unexpected. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones tore the ACL in is right knee at the end of October and his replacement, Tommy DeVito, has been less than stellar, to say the least. So why does this game matter? It's one of the Packers' best chances to win on the remaining half of the schedule. And for Packers fans who might want to do some Christmas shopping in New York, tickets don't come much cheaper. Also, the Packers might remember that game in London last year ....
