Packers and 49ers to face off in NFL record 10th all-time playoff game

The Green Bay Packers48-32 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday will send Matt LaFleur’s team to San Francisco to play the 49ers in what will be a record-setting postseason game in the NFC Divisional Round.

The showdown at Levi’s Stadium will be the 10th all-time playoff meeting between the Packers and 49ers, setting a new NFL record.

The Packers tied the all-time record at nine meeting on Sunday against the Cowboys. The Cowboys-Rams and Cowboys-49ers have also played each other nine times in the playoffs.

The Packers and 49ers will make history next weekend.

Green Bay leads the all-time series 5-4, but San Francisco has won four straight meetings, including the last meeting overall (13-10 win at Lambeau Field during the 2021 season) and the last meeting in San Francisco (37-20 win in NFC Championship Game during 2019 season).

The Packers won the first three meetings in back-to-back-to-back years during the 1995, 1996 and 1997 seasons. The 49ers broke through on Terrell Owens’ late touchdown catch from Steve Young that beat the Packers during the 1998 season.

In more recent years, the 49ers knocked out Aaron Rodgers and the Packers four times — twice at Lambeau Field and twice in San Francisco. Two of the last three wins for the 49ers have been on game-winning field goals as time expired.

Can Jordan Love reverse the trend against the NFC’s top team in 2023?

Next weekend will be the fifth time the Packers and 49ers have met in the NFC Divisional Round.
