Pacers' Byrd earns PBC honor
Feb. 21—USC Aiken's Justin Byrd has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Byrd helped the Pacers to a 5-0 week, which included a three-game weekend sweep of North Georgia to open PBC play.
To start the week, Byrd went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored against Newberry. He followed that up by going 3-for-5 with another homer and three RBI against Francis Marion.
In the three-game series at North Georgia he scored twice and drove in two runs, and in Saturday's win he also pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
He's currently fourth in the PBC with three homers, and he's ninth in the league with three doubles. Byrd is fifth in the conference for total bases (23) and 13th in the PBC with 13 RBI.
USCA will be back home this weekend for a three-game series against Embry Riddle, starting with a 4 p.m. game Friday.
