FINAL: OU 66, Tulsa 17

The Sooners wrap up nonconference play and are set to open Big 12 play next Saturday at Cincinnati.

Read five takeaways from the game HERE.

Fourth quarter: OU adds TD after Trace Ford INT

Trace Ford intercepts the pass and takes it all the down to Tulsa's 4-yard line. That's the fifth interception of the day for OU's defense.

A Gavin Sawchuk 1-yard TD run made it 66-17.

Third quarter: Jackson Arnold has entered the chat

Jackson Arnold wasted no time showing off his arm when he took over for Dillon Gabriel late in the third quarter.

On his first play running the regular offense — as opposed to the short-yardage package he was used in earlier in the game, the Sooners’ freshman phenom dropped back and whipped a pass to Nic Anderson for what looked like a long gain.

But Anderson dragged a defender all the way into the end zone, falling across the goal line before being brought down.

The touchdown gave the Sooners a 59-17 lead.

Third quarter: Jovantae Barnes puts OU over 50-point mark

It looks like Jovantae Barnes has finally secured the top spot on OU’s running backs depth chart.

After two weeks of being listed behind Marcus Major and walk-on Tawee Walker, Barnes made his first start of the season Saturday, and found the end zone for the first time.

Barnes scored on a 1-yard touchdown run late in the third to put the Sooners ahead 52-17.

The carry was Barnes’ 11th of the game. Gavin Sawchuk, with three, was the only other running back with a carry.

Third quarter: Nic Anderson makes it 45-17 Sooners

Nic Anderson sheds a tackle and races down the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown. That's the redshirt freshman WR's second TD of the day. OU has a 45-17 lead over Tulsa with 7:08 left in the third quarter.

Third quarter: OU 38, Tulsa 17

Tulsa marches 73 yards down the field on the first drive of the third quarter, and Chase Meyer caps it off with a 21-yard field goal. OU has a 38-17 lead with 9:54 on the clock.

Halftime: OU 38, Tulsa 14

The Jackson Arnold package made its first appearance just before halftime.

Arnold came on in the final minute of the second quarter after a Tulsa pass interference penalty gave the Sooners first-and-goal at the Tulsa 2.

The Golden Hurricane quickly called a timeout to regroup after Arnold jogged onto the field before Arnold rolled out and threw a laser of a pass at tight end Blake Smith short of the goal line.

Smith couldn’t handle it, then Arnold was stopped for no gain on second down, forcing the Sooners to settle for a 20-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half to take a 38-14 lead into the break.

Second quarter: Tulsa answers again, cuts OU lead to 35-14

Tulsa's offense has come alive since Cardell Williams came into the game. The redshirt freshman QB just found Devan Williams for an 18-yard touchdown. OU has a 35-14 lead with 5:30 left in the second quarter.

Second quarter: Dillon Gabriel puts Sooners up 35-7

Dillon Gabriel kept right on rolling early in the second quarter, shortly after Tulsa found the end zone for the first time.

Gabriel started the ensuing drive with a 37-yard completion to Jalil Farooq, then capped it with a 28-yard touchdown to Nic Anderson on third-and-11.

After the pass to Anderson, Gabriel was 16 of 18 for 272 yards and four touchdowns.

Second quarter: Tulsa finally scores

Redshirt freshman quarterback Cardell Williams marches Tulsa down the field and connects with Marquis Shoulders for a 19-yard touchdown. OU has a 28-7 lead with 12:30 on the clock in the second quarter.

First quarter: Drake Stoops puts Sooners up 28-0

By the time the first quarter ended, Drake Stoops found the end zone again.

Dillon Gabriel hit Stoops for a four-yard touchdown pass shortly after Kendel Dolby’s interception.

Saturday’s game was Stoops’ first multi-touchdown game of his career.

On the drive, freshman Cayden Green, listed as the backup at left tackle on the depth chart, replaced starter Savion Byrd at left guard for the Sooners.

Byrd was replaced last week by Troy Everett before reentering the game late.

First quarter: Danny Stutsman's pick-6 puts OU up 21-0

Danny Stutsman pulled down the pass and had nothing but green ahead of him.

The OU linebacker picked off Tulsa quarterback Roman Fuller late in the first quarter and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Sooners up 21-0.

It was OU’s second interception of Fuller in the quarter after Gentry Williams intercepted a pass earlier.

Stutsman’s return was the Sooners’ first interception return for a touchdown since Tre Norwood against Florida in the 2020 Cotton Bowl.

A few moments later, Kendal Dolby picked off another pass from Fuller.

First quarter: Sooners go up 14-0 on Drake Stoops TD

It was the drive of Drake Stoops.

The chant of “Stooooooops” echoed repeatedly throughout H.A. Chapman Stadium on Saturday afternoon on the Sooners’ second drive.

Dillon Gabriel hit Drake Stoops for four completions in a span of five plays, with the final going for a four-yard touchdown to put the Sooners up 14-0 with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

After being injured in the opener, Stoops had just two catches for 17 yards last week against SMU.

Stoops had four catches for 19 yards on the scoring drive.

First quarter: Jalil Farooq makes up for fumble with TD

It didn’t take Jalil Farooq long to find redemption.

The OU receiver had a big opening kickoff, taking the ball into Tulsa territory before a fumble gave the ball to Tulsa to start the game instead.

But Gentry Williams — playing in his hometown — intercepted a pass quickly and the Sooners immediately pushed the ball downfield.

Dillon Gabriel hit Andrel Anthony on a play-action on the Sooners’ first offensive play for a 55-yard gain and then after a penalty on the Sooners, hit Farooq for a 34-yard touchdown to put the Sooners up 7-0 early.

First quarter: Turnovers early

Jalil Farooq returns the opening kickoff into Tulsa territory, but he fumbles it. Tulsa recovers, and it’ll begin at its own 36. Wild start.

Cool moment for Tulsa native Gentry Williams, who intercepts a pass to give OU the ball back. Williams was also named a captain for today's game.

Pregame: Sooners will be without Justin Harrington vs. Tulsa

OU will be without starting cheetah Justin Harrington when the Sooners take on Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Harrington suffered an apparent leg injury early in last week’s 28-11 win over SMU but remained in the game and had a late interception to seal the victory.

Dasan McCullough, who played just two snaps in the opener against Arkansas State, went through warmups and is likely to start in Harrington’s spot.

In addition to Harrington, who was at the game but not dressed out, the Sooners had two other players on the depth chart not dressed out — tight end Kade McIntyre and cornerback Jayden Rowe and safety Daeh McCullough.

Freshman Peyton Bowen started at cheetah instead of McCullough.
