Oshkosh West 41, Oshkosh North 0

OSHKOSH - Oshkosh West (4-4, 2-4 Fox Valley Association) shut out their cross-town rivals to take back the Harold J. Schumerth Cup after the Spartans (1-7, 0-6 FVA) claimed it last season for the first time since 2016.

The Wildcats put up 21 points right away in the first quarter with Jaiden Fronczak getting things started by scoring a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Then, quarterback and Oshkosh area Player of the Year finalist Chase Brandl found tight end Drew Blair for a 42-yard touchdown pass on West's second possession. Finally, Fronczak earned his second touchdown run of the night, this time from three yards out.

Fronczak finished with nine carries for 46 yards, Brandl completed 6-of-12 passes for 78 yards, and Blair had two catches for 47 yards.

In the third quarter, North muffed a punt which was scooped up by Blair in the end zone for his second score and, later, Jake Balog plunged in for a 7-yard touchdown run. Balog finished as the Wildcats' leading rusher with 11 carries for 61 yards.

To close out the scoring in the fourth, Dylan Miller returned an interception 35 yards to the house, his second pick of the game.

The Spartans tallied 187 total yards, led by running back Jamare Scott with nine carries for 91 yards. Quarterback Bryce Ott completed 7-of-18 passes for 66 yards with Dalton Clark finishing as his top receiver with three catches for 30 yards.

Liam Murphy collected 11 tackles and a sack to lead North defensively, followed by Conner Palmquist with nine tackles and Antonio Thompson with eight tackles.

Oshkosh West will enter the final week of the regular season with an outside chance of still clinching a playoff spot but needs to earn a tough road win in Fond du Lac in order to keep their hopes alive.

Next game (Oshkosh West): Oct. 13 @ Fond du Lac (3-5, 3-3 FVA)

Next game (Oshkosh North): Oct. 13 vs. Neenah (6-2, 4-2 FVA)

Lourdes Academy 34, St. Mary Catholic 28

NEENAH - Lourdes (6-2, 5-1 Trailways) held on for the win over SMC (2-6, 1-5 Trailways) in what was a tightly contested game throughout.

The Knights put up the first points on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Wade Lindahl to Mat Yaggie, who also kicked a 28-yard field goal in the opening quarter to give Lourdes a 10-6 lead after 12 minutes.

In the second, Lindahl connected with Jok Machiros on a 26-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 17-6. St. Mary Catholic countered with a touchdown of their own, though, to keep it close at the half, 17-12.

Yaggie started off the third quarter scoring by kicking another field goal, this time from 26 yards out, but the Zephyrs later tied the game at 20 with another touchdown and a successful two-point conversion.

Just before the end of the period, Lindahl tossed his third touchdown pass of the night finding Braden Studinski for 20 yards. Then the Knights doubled up halfway through the fourth quarter when Lindahl got his fourth passing touchdown of the night, his second toss to Yaggie from 24 yards, to give Lourdes their biggest lead of the game.

SMC inched closer by scoring one final touchdown with four minutes left, but the Knights closed the game out to secure the victory.

Lindahl did it all with 115 rushing yards on 24 carries to go along with completing 19-of-29 passes for 234 yards. Yaggie finished with 67 yards on three catches and Oshkosh area Player of the Year finalist Mitchell Wing had eight grabs for 50 yards and two interceptions to lead the defense.

Omro 21, Laconia 13

LACONIA - After a scoreless first half, Omro (3-5, 2-4 Flyway) got on the board in the third quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run from Jack Wellhoefer.

Laconia (2-6, 0-6 Flyway) countered with a touchdown run in the third, as well, but missed the extra point which gave the Foxes a 1-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Omro quarterback Keenan Rahn took over in the final 12 minutes scoring twice on the ground, first from eight yards out and later taking a 37-yard run to the house. Rahn finished with 22 carries for 183 yards and Wellhoefer complimented him with 23 rushes for 111 yards.

The Spartans kept things close, adding another rushing touchdown following Rahn's first score, but it wasn't enough to gain the upper hand.

Defensively, Cooper Schultz finished as Laconia's leading tackler with 12 stops (five solo), Shultis intercepted his fourth pass of the season, and the Spartans forced four fumbles (Devon Robbins - 2, Matthew Leonard and Flynn O'Laire - 1 each) as a team.

No. 1 (D-3) Port Washington 35, No. 8 (D-4) Berlin 20

PORT WASHINGTON - Berlin (6-2, 4-2 East Central) faced a 7-0 deficit early but back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Carter Hess to start the second quarter, from 78 and two yards, respectively, gave them a brief lead with 9:17 to go until the half.

That lead lasted all of 13 seconds as Port Washington (8-0, 6-0 East Central) returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to tie the game, then scored three more times for 28 total unanswered points to build up a 35-14 advantage that carried 12 seconds into the fourth.

Ethan Mathe scored the first touchdown for the Wolves on an 8-yard run, then in the fourth, Oshkosh area Player of the Year finalists Brady Immel found Brody Schaffer for a 31-yard touchdown pass before running one in, himself, from five yards out - his first rushing score of the season.
