OSAA state swimming championships: Here's how Salem-area athletes performed

Salem-area swimmers vied for titles Saturday in the finals for the OSAA state swimming championships held at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

Here are takeaways on how swimmers performed in Class 6A, 5A and 4A/3A/2A/1A.

5A Salem-area swimmers

A Salem-area swimmer had a podium finish and another had a Top 5 finish at the state tournament on Saturday night.

Central's Gentry Hagedorn placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time 24.59.

The junior placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.90.

"It took a lot of work to get here," Hagedorn said. "I've been swimming for a while, so it was a big accomplishment to get second because last year I was fourth in both my races. I was happy to see improvement."

Hagedorn said she's hoping to have more personal records next year but doesn't know what events she will compete in.

Boys

Woodburn junior Mark Seledkov placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.56.

Girls team scores — 1, Bend, 119; 2, Canby, 48; 3, Redmond, 33; 8, Central, 8.

Boys team scores — 1, West Albany, 76; 2, Crescent Valley, 57; 3, Summit, 53; 10, Silverton, 8.

6A Salem-area swimmers

Two West Salem swimmers had podium finishes at the state tournament on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Jarrod Coy placed third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.36.

He finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.06.

Sophomore Abby Evans placed sixth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.04.

West Salem's 400-yard freestyle relay team, featuring Evans, Caroline Haworth, Odelya Laroya and Reyna Macias finished ninth with a time of 3:44.79.

Boys team scores — 1, Jesuit, 93.5; 2, Sunset, 92; 3, West Linn, 78.

Girls team scores — 1, Jesuit, 107; 2, Lakeridge, 93; 3, West Linn, 57.

4A/3A/2A/1A Salem-area swimmers

Salem Academy's 200 freestyle relay team, featuring Brooke Stubbe, Haley Krieger, Ellie Gladow and Eliana Kuenz placed fourth with a time of 1:48.76.

Girls team scores — 1, Newport, 54; 2, La Grande, 43; 3, Sweet Home, 29.

Boy steam scores — 1, Newport, 72; 2, Catlin Gabel, 47; 3, La Grande, 31.
