LAS CRUCES -- Albuquerque High defeated Organ Mountain 22-20 Friday night at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.

Organ Mountain was unable to maintain its early lead in the first football game played in Las Cruces this fall, and Albuquerque took advantage of three first-half turnovers and a first-quarter special-teams miscue to drop the Knights to 0-1 on the season. The two schools combined for six turnovers in the first half, and Albuquerque returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Organ Mountain jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter after taking advantage of a strip sack fumble and a punting mistake by Albuquerque, but the Bulldogs bounced back with a 72-yard scoop-and-score touchdown off a bad snap from Organ Mountain. Albuquerque stretched the lead to 22-13 before halftime with a 60-yard touchdown run, its only offensive score of the night.

Organ Mountain had two drives stall out in opponent territory, and the Knights were unable to find the endzone until the final 50 seconds of the fourth quarter. Organ Mountain failed to recover the ensuing onside kick, and Albuquerque kneeled out the clock.

Organ Mountain travels to Deming next week while Albuquerque welcome West Mesa.
