Oregon Ducks to host Michigan in 2023, resolving home-and-home series unrest

Ahead of the 2022 Oregon Ducks basketball season, Dana Altman did something that he very rarely does. He called out another coach, and another team, setting his sights on Juwan Howard and the Michigan Wolverines.

“There’s no buyout, they’re coming,” Altman said when asked about the unresolved home-and-home series with Michigan. “I don’t know, they have a hard time answering the phone, I guess. But no, they owe us a game, and we fully expect them to repay the game. I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot, they would expect us to return it, and we sure as hell expect them to return it.”

The Oregon Ducks pulled off an overtime victory over the Michigan Wolverines back in 2019, at a sold out Crisler Arena.

A return game at Matthew Knight Arena was primed for mid-November 2020, and could have been an all-time classic had COVID-19 put a pause on the Pac-12’s non-conference slate.

That return game has finally been scheduled, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, set for December 2 at Matthew Knight Arena.

The Ducks have retooled this offseason and expect to have a better season in 2023-24, aiming for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in three years. Michigan also hopes to have a better squad after going 18-16, and 11-9 in Big Ten play last year.

Regardless of how strong the two teams are this early in the season, it should be a packed house at Matthew Knight Arena.
