Oologah, Catoosa standouts recognized in District 4A-3 All-District selections
Dec. 29—In a season marked by varying fortunes, the football teams of Oologah and Catoosa displayed notable individual performances within District 4A-3 despite encountering their share of challenges along the way.
The Mustangs concluded their season with a playoffs appearance, navigating through a tough schedule to finish 5-6 overall while securing a third-place finish in District 4A-3. Their postseason journey concluded with a 34-7 loss to Ada in the Class 4A playoffs.
Standout performances from key players were acknowledged in the district's All-District selections, recognizing their contributions to the team's efforts.
Jackson Gill earned the title of Lineman of the Year, a testament to his pivotal role in Oologah's offensive strategies. Gill's efforts played a significant part in the team's ability to average 31.7 points per game, contributing to the Mustangs' offensive success.
Max Becker, recognized as the Inside Linebacker of the Year, showcased his defensive prowess as part of a unit that allowed 29.1 points per game. Becker's contributions on the defensive end were instrumental in anchoring Oologah's defense throughout the season.
Other notable mentions included Tyler Stovall, Brady Evans, Ashton Wright and Jax Burchett, who secured spots on the all-district team, with Ty Cherry and Brayden Stovall making the Honorable Mentions list.
The Indians, though missing out on the playoffs with a 4-6 finish and placing sixth in the district, concluded their season on a positive note with a commanding 59-23 win over Cleveland.
Despite their challenges, individual excellence within the team did not go unnoticed in the All-District selections.
Fernando Dominguez earned recognition as the Edge Rusher of the Year, showcasing his versatility and impact on Catoosa's defense.
Dominguez's stats — 36 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, an interception and two pass deflections — highlighted his significant contributions to the team's defensive efforts.
Kanen Bristol's recognition as Offensive Tackle of the Year underlined his importance in Catoosa's offensive line, for he was instrumental in the Indians managing 2,610 yards of offense through 10 games while averaging 25.6 points per game. Bristol's leadership and skills were pivotal in guiding the Indians' offensive strategies.
The All-District selections further acknowledged standout performances from first-team recipients offensive lineman Avery Riley, defensive lineman Jayden Salyer, linebacker Legend Lor and running back Luke Beauchamp, while kicker Herron Vasquez, offensive lineman Jared Robbins and halfback/tight end hybrid Kevin Sepulveda were placed on the second team, each playing a significant role in their respective positions and underscoring the depth and talent within Catoosa's lineup.
Although the season might have presented its share of challenges, the individual recognitions in the All-District selections for Oologah and Catoosa reaffirmed the talents, dedication and contributions of standout players within District 4A-3.
